I am still on some of my favorite 80's horror movie. Now a year before I was born, a very interesting flick came out called Child's play. Now like other movies, it was a success and it fell into the greedy pool of other sequels such as Halloween, A nightmare of elm street, friday the 13th, etc. To me this should have stopped after the first, because it was a good flick.

Now the story is about a killer that gets chased down and shot by a cop. He runs into a toy store where he converts his soul into a doll. Some years later, a boy happens to purchase the doll that the killer's soul is in and that is when things get strange as the doll goes on a killing spree, causing others to suspect the boy of being a murderer.

Now this happens to be an enteresting flick, I like it. Now what I like most about the movie is the fact that it is original. Though we do get your basic hack and slash, it is done by a killer doll, which isn't the first I think to ever do this, but the first to be recognized and make a way for a genre of killer doll movies. I also find the killer himself, chucky, to be an icon, for the simple fact of who would expect a doll of killing anybody?

The movie does have faults, a lack of gore-which makes it more entertaining-but I really wanted to see some and the fact that we don't know much about the killer himself. Hum...I see why Hollywood is making so many remakes, it's not that they are running out of idea's, but the simple fact that they are making up for the mistakes that they have made in their past, but end up making this worse.

So I think this was entertaining, a very tense filled movie, simply for the fact that you never know what and who the killer is going to kill next, and for the simple fact that it has a good villain. So I give this movie a 7. I hope you guys didn't expect this to be higher, it's good, but with a two foot killer doll and no gore, it isn't great.

#1 Child's Play isn't a slasher
#2 It isn't a cult classic, it's mainstream horror
#3 I don't see how lack of gore made this entertaining?
#4 You always know who's getting killed next, not 1 surprise kill in this flick

Alot of Chucky haters out there but the original was a nice little film IMO.

3 was a guilty pleasure as well. The whole military setting and the score played out well for that movie.

Childs Play 6/10

I hate these films, that kid was a terrible actor.

I still remember the TV ad for this movie, and how they were interviewing people coming out of various theaters(the first to do this I think)and how people were claiming this was the scariest movi ever made.:axekill:

I haven't seen it in a while but it's a good movie... I don't think I would ever ever watch "Seed of Chucky" though.

This movie paved the way for the Puppet Master, haha

It's also the 20th Anniversary (info about the extras on the DVD are at dareyoutowatch.com... looks like some good stuff). Not that I was old enough to watch this when it came out, but it seems ridiculous that it's already that old. Oh my how the time passes ;)

I like Chucky but i'm not a fan of Child's Play at all. The first one was not as great as i expected. Way too long movie with 0 surprises. The sequel was really nice, much more funny even if we know who's gonna get kill! Alex is not the greatest actor in the world. He turned the movie into a stupid joke. Always wanted him to get kill!

I like Chucky. I didn't like the Seed of Chucky though. I thought it was rather daft. I much prefer the first movie of this set!

Yes it is a bit corny but hey, it was made in the 80's.. This was their idea of horror. It's not like Hollywood got any better and compiling horror flicks.. We have some pretty cheezy "horror" movies these days as well! :shakehead

I would die having a Good Guy Doll!
Alex Vincent pissed me off! He's like a stupid kid who just can't realize that a doll is talking to him! Fuck, wake up stupid kid!

I like them for their entertainment purposes. I do not watch them because they are good "horror movies", because they are not horror.
