NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988)

Starring: Amelia Kinkade, Allison Barron, Alvin Alexis, Lance Fenton.

Written by: Joe Augustyn

Directed by: Kevin Tenney

This is my all time favorite horror movie of all time and one of the best demon movies in my honest opinion and hopefully I'll get the DVD by Christmas, if not I'll pitch a stop at my local FYE or Best Buy, because this movie is worth every dollar. I remember when I was about 9 or so, the times I really got into horror movies, and I went by this little treasure at blockbuster and I so totally regret I never gave it a check because then it would've left me scared for like ever, but now I have (on youtube, sorry!) and am here to give a nice review on this terror-ific movie! :D

The plot is pretty brief, Angela Franklin, the weirdest girl who ever lived even I wouldn't date her, has invited 10 teenagers to an old abandoned funeral parlor called "Hull House" for a Halloween party and to play a few games that could awaken spirits of the dead in a very pissed off way. Hmmm, sure they don't mean "Hell House"? Because when Angela does a seance with everyone involved, a demon spirit that can only come out on Halloween night arises and starts possessing one-by-one of the teens, having the ones possessed become homicidal freaks and killing off one another and possessing them too. Making a horde of demon zombies means this demon wants to really raise the roof. Now only two teenagers are left and are not just trapped in the house but also outside where a large stone wall had demonically appeared. Will this be their last Halloween?

I so regret never seeing this movie until now, especially with its animated opening and music, I love 80s horror classics that do that, especially when they can afford for such a thing or if the director has connections but anyway...I loved how the dialouge and lines they made were pure original and were absolutely hilarious, lines I couldn't even beat! The makeup and special effects were awesome, just the type of things I love about making movies and having fun with creature stuff. I will tell you, this movie was very scary in my honest opinion, lots of scenes I couldn't watch alone at night because of sounds, looks and scares combined. The gore is quite lovely, who am I kidding, it was fantasic too! Yes, there's plenty of T & A to go around, especially with one girl who makes the amazing "disappearing" lipstick trick with it that made it look painful but creepy and good nonetheless! And it has my favorite element to its story where it celebrates Halloween, my FAVORITE holiday!

OVERALL

The greatest demon movie ever made, with Halloween aspects to it! They should start making Angela costumes and masks. The lines in it were great, the acting was good, the makeup and special effects are cheesy but great, the gore's great, and the story's brief but great, and it was really truely deeply scary! A true horror classic everyone should own, if not I'll take a sicle and shove it up your--!?!!#$. Sorry, got carried away, but for good reason! Deffinately recommended.

10/10 (No matter if my rating's too high, I loved this movie!)

Night of the Demons isn't bad for a knock-off flick.

No way a 10/10 though.

Night of the Demons is good for what it is, it's a popcorn-flick all the way through. Not over 8/10 from me though. Evil Dead and Demons are the leaders of demon films :greetings:

I was never scared with Evil Dead 1, no matter if it started it's crazy series, the 2nd one scared me the most though...

...Should Evil Dead have scared you because it started the serie?

Either way, doesn't matter if it's scarier or not, it is the best demon film out there, after that is Demons.

Well of course Evil Dead is better than Night of the Demons, since Night of the Demons is nothing but rip off of Evil Dead. From the story, to the setup, down to the Raimi camera movements.

Yeah, but I'll still love Night of the Demons as my favorite demon movie. :)

Night of the Demons was good but not the best. For me it's Demons 2 which I think must have inspired REC and Quarantine. Bava kills it.

Night Of The Demons was good but had a weird combination of horror and comedy that didn't really gel right, it was still a quality horror movie though. I thought the sequel got the horror/comedy feel down alot better and was a tad more entertaining because of that.

The review was well written though and explains why you enjoyed Night Of The Demons so much.

There is something to be said about gory special effects from the eighties. If done right they can be more effect that CGI. I'm thinking of the guy with his eyes gouged, looks freaky.

Hell ya I remember this one from back in the day. I agree with Sutter Kane about 80's gore much better than CGI , I liked it when they had to make there own props.

i remember a thread about "The movie that scared you the most as a kid" and hands down, i didnt even have to think about it, it was "Night of the demons". It got burnt into my brain. That witch lady demon floating towards the camera passing through darkness, then light, then darkness, man that shit scared me!!!!. This movie rules. I watched "Demons" not long ago, good movie, but i liked "Night of the Demons" better.

Really good flick. i saw it the first time when I was about 8 or 9. Funny thing was I saw it, and about a month later my parents rented it one night when we where watching the neigbors kids. I had to pretend I didn't know the nude scenes where coming up, cause I didn't want my mom to know I saw it.

BTW.... good review..... for me the movie is a 7/10
