If you shop at Circuit City then you need to read this...

With consumer demand for high-end electronics plummeting and competition from rivals becoming more intense, Circuit City, according to the Wall Street Journal, may close 150 stores and pink-slip thousands of employees, thereby allowing it to liquidate $350 million in assets and stave off bankruptcy. The company, which reportedly has had only one profitable quarter since the second quarter of 2007, has seen its stock drop 90.7 percent since the beginning of the year. Analysts have suggested that even the drastic cost-saving moves contemplated by the company may not be sufficient to turn it around.

Didn't they try to merge with Blockbuster video? As if that would really help them.

I go to Best Buy more than Circuit City, but mostly just because of my rewards zone card. Circuit City offers better equipment though, but BB beats'em in everything else, in my opinion

Best Buy now having an instrument department helps them out as well. Don't think Best Buy will go anywhere anytime soon.Circuit City only time will tell.

I could have sworn Circuit City already filed for bankruptcy a couple of months ago. Either way, it's not looking good. Fortunately, it's not limiting the places I purchase DVDs since I mostly buy them online or at Best Buy.

My CC is already starting to close it's doors but it doesn't effect me. I always hated that store. The store was really small and had almost NO walking room and the employees couldn't leave you alone for five seconds since they were trying to get some commission. The only good thing about them was that on new release Tuesdays they usually had a few new titles for 13.99.

I haven't been to Circut City in like 10 years. Ever since I got a computer I've been doing all my shopping online.

There are two of them by me. One of them is a lot more convenient than the only Best Buy in the area.

I started preferring them to BB too. Best Buy stopped having the better deals, and Circuit City at least came down far enough to meet them.

I gave up on Circuit City years ago after having issues with a tv purchased there.

I've been to a couple of CC stores and they were all unorganized. Stuff over here stuff over there. I hate that store. There is another one supposed to open by me but it's been sitting empty for a few months now. Maybe it's already on the outs.
I think Best Buy is better anyway even though they don't always have the best deals.

I've always wondered how the one by my house stays in business. Its immediately surrounded by a Target, a Walmart, a shopping mall, and Best Buy. It'll prolly be one of the ones to close.

I'm sure they will have fine careers ahead of them in the new Walmarts that will fill in the gap after local CCs close. Dang things pop up everywhere these days, let not one can figure out how to keep more than 3 registers open at a time...

Dudes its called the limit of growth. What do you bloody think all of these electronics are made of? The answer is NATURAL RESOURCES!! which are LIMITED!! America uses 25 percent of the nrs a day with only a mere 3 percent of the population. We have hit peak energy now and unfortunately we could see shortages and unavailability of certain things rapidly increasing in frequency for the rest of our lives.

The one that's near the mall which is no more than 5-10 min's or so seem's like it's still open as far as i can tell. It would be crazy if they ended up merging with Best Buy for some reason or another considering that's what most companies are doing to try and stay alive.

If they do, they better not do it the way Movie Gallery acquired Hollywood Video. What a disaster that was. :dsp:

Damn it, now I might have to get on the highway just to get to the Best Buy instead of just taking a two minute drive up the road to CC :sure:

It's a matter of economics: Supply and demand. The supply is being met more and more every day by Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and chains expanding into former Circuit City territory. Amazon, Ebay, and smaller sites are also letting people sit at home (and save resources) in order to have the items shipped directly home.

Meanwhile, the cost of goods remains constant.

For the record, natural resources are what get used to whine on the internet about all the natural resources that people use.

As far as I am concerned this is the companies own fault for having poor management. I mean they just keep opening up store after store even when they are going through tough times.

"To many people are probably buying stuff from there online store then actually going out these days."

Circuit City's just too small and their customer support in my area is terrible with folks that have little knowledge on the products they're selling. When I was checking out some DSLR's their camera supervisor was asking me things that he should know.

BB has more products and eager sales folks. CC just needs new leadership in my opinion.
