So I got FarCry 2. It's really fun and everything but it is also pretty generic. It feels like its the same scenario over and over. Don't let that deter you though, im having a blast playing it and you probly will too.

It feels like the same thing over and over because it pretty much is. You get a mission, kill a man/destroy the target, rinse and repeat. There's a lot of original things that set this apart from other, standard FPS though.
Save every chance you get (PC version can save anytime, consoles don't have that luxury). I can't tell you how many times I've had to travel 30 mins to my mission, stop and repair my truck, only to get rammed by enemies in a jeep and have to restart the whole goddamn thing. Also, I love how all the characters you can choose from are bad ass mercs; they can take dig bullets out of their arms and legs, reset the bones in their shoulders and fingers, yet they can't jump more than 2 inches of the fuckin ground.
All in all, it's a beautiful game that's good for a play-through or two, but I still wish there was a faster way to get around the humongous world. I'd give this game between an 8-8.5 right now.

I'm diggin' the game. So far I haven't done enough to get tired of doing the same stuff over, but I did do some exploring on my boat and coincidentally ended up rescuing some guy from a group of armed men. :thumbup3:

It's hard deciding which faction to do missions for. Everytime you choose a mission, somebody calls you with either a "sub" mission to do or a mission that goes against the faction you just took the mission for.
Getting better about saving...Haven't been unable to unlock any new weapons in a while. I guess you have to play the main story missions and progress that before it'll let you unlock new things.

One thing really annoying about the game is how you're constantly running into guys along the road. It's especially annoying when you've just cleared a guard post but when you head back later on it's filled with guys again

For me this game is good but has many flaws at the same time, like many around the net people are bitching about this feeling like Assassin's Creed and in some ways they are sort of the same. I'm semi bored with the game in Act 2, 42% in but at the same time something drags me back to the game.

I didn't play A-Creed much, how are the two similar?

Well its the same formula and repetitive gameplay. Go to a guy, get a mission, travel long distances, kill someone, go back, get another.. then instead of finding templars and flags you are scouting outposts, looking for diamonds etc The guns are all off from sounds to bullets ejecting on the wrong side. fixing cars is bullshit and boring, respawning guard posts are lame.. the malaria is a waste of time. the list goes on and on.
I like the graphics, I like healing, I also noticed it takes too many shots to kill someone.. I'm on a mounted 50 cal. why does it take soo many bullets to kill an african in a t-shirt? Least the rifles are done right. You literally need headshots to kill fast here which isn't so bad. I find myself feeling like Nomad/Psycho until I realize its almost impossible to be stealthy even with a camo suit

The respawning guard posts is the most annoying for me, especially earlier after nearly dying when I just completed a mission and I just needed to go back to the quest giver, who happened to be on the complete opposite side of the map

Are you using bus stops? they help but you lose your car. but its usually okay because the main cities, safehouses or gun shops have cars

Only used it once. I should probably use'em more often. I'm still pretty early in the game. Been playing this, Saint's Row 2, and Silent Hill at the same time :myhead:

After completely playing it through I can honestly say that this game as awesome as it is sucky. I know that may sound stupid, but it's hard to describe. Basically, all of the innovative things they added in bring it down as much as they lift it up. I love that there is a total of like 50 square miles of land. I hate that I have to take a bus to the quadrant I want, then drive literally 10-15 minutes (all the while there are guard posts with 3-4 guys trying to kill you, and random guys on the road trying to do the same), then you have to fight your way through wave after wave of seemingly unstoppable enemies who have perfect aim, and then you try to heal yourself and your subject to a 10 second animation of the character pulling out a bullet/cauterizing a wound/bandaging a hole all the while the enemies are still plastering you with lead. Then you die and have to start all the way back at the bus stop, b/c that's the last time you got to save. Needless to say, it takes a while to get used to (I was playing on hard).
Health is in decent supply, however, but using it while ducked down behind a barricade while the enemies flank you from both sides can be tough. Oh, and I love the realism of old guns jamming. I also love it when I'm laying into a group of 4 or more guys and it jams after the 2nd shot.
The story isn't as full of freedom as they lead you to believe. You basically have to do all the missions for both factions, with a choice to subvert each one, and it doesn't matter what you choose to do, the game will end the same way. They also threw some meat and potatoes side missions and diamonds to collect to attempt to have some replay value.
Overall, you really want to rent this game (except maybe for PC).
Final score is a 7.5, mostly due to the fact some questionable, though sometimes neat, mechanics make the game slightly more frustrating than fun.

Luckily with PC you can save whenever you want, so you don't have to restart at the bus stop :whew:

Yeah pretty sloppy on the PC version that you can save via medkits on the wall and anytime via ESC lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one.. This game just fails but its still decent enough to play.

After having to restart so many times causing me to do more driving than shooting, I'd save after every damn shot if I could.
I agree with drid, compared to what it COULD have been, it def fails, but still decent enough to play. I can easily see it growing on some people though.

The gameplay would be a lot more fun if they just removed all those respawned guards

Really if you think about it though, if the guards didn't respawn, what would be left? A bunch of pointless driving from point a to point b. It could get boring. So maybe having to deal with the frustration of respawning enemies isn't as bad as boredom. Once a video game becomes boring to me, that's pretty much the kiss of death for it.
I seriously want to trade this in for Fallout 3, but GoW2 is out in a week...

I wouldn't mind dudes driving around the road, but always respawning at guard posts is annoying to me :negative:
