Eisner Award winner Brian Azzarello’s (100 Bullets) Joker graphic novel hits store shelves on October 29th November 4th. Our friends at IO9 are calling it “a look at what The Joker did next” following The Dark Knight, which might not be entirely accurate, but we like the sound of it anyway. This might not be The Dark Knight sequel that everyone wants. In fact, the book’s original title Joker: The Dark Knight was nixed by the guys at Warner Bros. Brian told Newsarama that fans of Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight are “gonna love our book” insisting that Nolan’s Joker and his Joker are “very, very eerily similar.” The official book description reads:

After yet another stint in Arkham Asylum, The Joker finds “his city” divided among mobsters and costumed villains. Not content to settle for a piece of the pie, The Joker vows to take back the whole damn enchilada by any means necessary. Look for appearances by a slew of Gotham’s most wanted, including gritty takes on Two-Face, Riddler, Killer Croc, Penguin, Harley Quinn and even Batman! Not since THE KILLING JOKE have you seen such a powerful tale of The Joker – you won’t want to miss this one!

Azzarello, known for writing hardcore violence into his comics, calls it “the most violent thing I’ve ever written.” Brian reteams with Lex Luthor: Man of Steel artist Lee Bermejo to “show an even darker and more disturbing side to the most dangerous man in Gotham.”

Sounds very promising, especially since they named dropped Heath Ledger and The Killing Joke. The Joker will be very violent and this is Azzarello's "sequel" to The Dark Knight. And may I say that Lee Bermejo draws the scariest fucking Joker I've ever seen.

I've already pre-ordered my copy.

Read this today and loved it. There is certainly a Ledger resemblance in it. Bermejo has become my favorite Joker artist and to make a coincidence, he came up with the scars aspect 6 months before Heath Ledger was cast. Certainly the best Joker story since The Killing Joke.

F them for the gratuitous hardcover format in the midst of a seemingly endless series of crossovers and orgy of 4-7 part limited series.

Now this pic here just further cements my claim that Killer Croc could work in the Nolan-verse... a big nasty sadistic fucker with a skin disorder... the perfect heavy for a not-so-heavy villain...

I really liked the use of Harley Quinn in this one. This is the first instance I've seen where she didn't talk, but she was still pretty useful. Not only did I love the design for the Joker, Batman's looked good, too. He looked like a monster, with a mouth to mock the Joker with, which is what I think he should look like.

Some of the artwork, mostly the detailed "big scene" work was absolutely amazing. Especially the scene where The Joker plays Russian Roulette.
