I'm a big fan of the games and I remember they would tease us with a small flyer that came with the game that said a movie would be "coming soon". Of course that wasn't exactly the case, as a movie didn't actually happen until five-or-so years later.

I didn't exactly mind Mark Wahlberg as Max, but pretty much hated all the other actors in the film. The movie has many faults, and one of'em is the fact that almost all the supporting roles in the movie were played by named celebs. It's almost as if they knew the movie wouldn't be good, but figured they'd throw as many celebs at us anyway in hopes that maybe people would see it for them. Some of which had pretty pointless roles.

The biggest problem I had with the movie is the lack of action -- WTF!! The game is full of action and plays great homage to the action films of John Woo, yet the movie itself has very little of it? What the hell happened? The film attempts to build up the story, and throw a couple very brief action scenes in the first hour, but the real action doesn't pick up until the last 20-minutes, and even then, it's not all that great.

On the plus side, they did manage to capture the look and some of the style of the game. Too bad everything else was a disappointment :negative: As a live-action adaptation from the game, this gets a 5/10, but if I ignore the fact that it's based on a great game and accept it as it is, I'd give it a 6/10.

If they do go ahead with a sequel, unless they load it with action and not overload the cast with an unncessary amount of familiar faces, then I will be skipping it. :dsp:

I ended up somewhat liking it and didn't mind that the role's were played mostly by named people. I do however agree on the fact that it lacked action for most of the film instead of the last part of the movie which was probably the better part of the film overall it was aight. 6/10

Sad to admit it, but I liked the Hitman adaptation better than this :whew:

Agreed, that one had better action overall if you compare them both.

I watched this last night, it was better than I expected since I heard so many terrible things about it. Its main problem was it was a PG-13 movie that obviously needed and R rating. It was pretty slow, but it kept my interest. I also thought as hot as Mila Kunis is, and as much as I don't mind staring at her she cannot play a hard ass to save her life. And while Mark Wahlberg isn't a horrible actor I would have went with someone else to play Max Payne. So while the movie wasn't perfect, I didn't hate that fact I gave it 1 watch.

Dam it. I really want to watch this no matter how much it might suck from what i read in here, but i have not played any of the games :(
Yeah i know shame on me, considering i am an avid gamer.
I just dont want to watch a movie based on a video game without having played the game first.
But i guess it must be really outdated to play it now.

i've seen Max Payne a couple of times and i can see the faults you all talk about but at the same time i saw good things about the film. for one thing it was beautifully shot, i love the look of the film. I thought Marky Mark was good as Payne and Mila Kunis did an okay job. though the action was pretty cool it could've been better. the movie needed more action more of the time and it needed more of the max payne slow-mo gun time. also the lines and dialogue needed some tweeking. still all in all i give this flick a solid 7/10.:smoking3:

Does anyone know if the sequel they set it up for will actually happen? It made $85 mill on a $35 mill worldwide plus it went #1 in rentals too so it makes sense that Fox would demand another Payne flick, I'm really curious because they could do so much more with the next one to make it better than the first

I never played the games either. That's probably why i thought it was an ok movie. I wasn't expecting anything from it other than something to watch. I give it 6/10.

Never played the game and maybe thats why I won't trash, thought the basic storyline was decent, action ok but there were some huge plot holes. Wouldn't mind a sequel if it could be done better. Never trust Sucre.

I watched this movie about 4 months ago, and I honestly dont remeber anything about it. I played the game when it first came out, and really liked it, but nothing in the movie really kept my attention.

Thought this movie was absolutely atrocious. Could have been so much better but the execution is awful.
