Re-watched a little of this movie on TV earlier and remembered how decent it was. Sure it's kinda dumb, but the whole idea about the house is interesting and I liked how it had a bunch of unique ghosts in it, some of which were a little freaky.

The film also came out around the time when mainstream supernatural horror flicks like this could still be rated R. Now-a-days, studios are too scared to slap restricted ratings that they aim for PG-13, in hopes of bringing in more viewers. The end-result usually ends up being a crapfest.

I think I originally gave it a 7/10 rating when it came out back in '01. I think now it'd probably be a 6. Still not an entirely bad flick. :shrugs:

Wasn't Thir13teen Ghosts already a remake? So this one would be a remake of a remake.

This thread is dedicated to the remake..

Meh...it wasn't too great. It had its entertaining moments, but I've seen this movie probably three or four times already, and I think that's enough for me.

I have this flick myself and I always enjoyed what it had to offer. Especially the scenes involving The Jackal. :D

That's something I've always wanted to ask you FrighT. Are there other reviews, like this one, you made a few years back that you felt didn't deserve that rating; a higher or lower rating than what you gave it back then?

For most of the reviews my opinion pretty much remains the same, but sometimes the rating itself changes, especially if I give something a really favorable review, but look back and decide that maybe I was a little too nice. :shrugs:

I saw this in the theater, and enjoyed most of it. It was more violent than the first Dark Castle flick, but not as frightening overall.

I think the one part I really hated was the old school rap style "scratching" with equipment that really would not be effective for the task. It was only a few seconds long, but it really detracted from the entire film for me.

Matthew Lillard also did a great job carrying on the role of "Comic Relief that doesn't suck." There is a very good compare/contrast with his character and Chris Kattan's character in House on Haunted Hill. For at least two movies, Dark Castle showed near-mastery of comic timing in a horror film.

I wouldn't call it perfect, but it was still really, really good at what it meant to be.

I liked this as well as the other Dark Castle flicks. Ghost Ship and House on Haunted Hill. All were decent ghost flicks with favorable amounts of gore.

Jason X originally got an 8/10 rating when I saw it, because I was young and really in the mood for a new Jason flick. Some years later I changed it to a 7/10.

Battle Royale originally received a 9/10, but a few years later I decided to actually re-review it; added some new sentences and slapped a 10-rating.

Just a couple examples :thumbup3:

Steelba originally gave Quarantine an 8, but after reading many somewhat negative comments and reviews, decided to change it to a 6 :hmmm:

I spent the entire movie staring at Shannon Elizabeth's tits and can't remember much else. I've seen it 5 times.

Thirteen Ghosts was ok as a starter flick when I was younger and still building up speed into my love of horror. Gore level isn't satisfactory to me anymore. It would be ok if it was leveled off with some better acting too, but I didn't find it THAT well acted.

On a side note I also re-watched Jason X and my god is that movie fucking great just as a stand alone sci-fi/slasher mash up. Good drinking movie.

Liked the movie because of the casting but I really never did get too interested in the movie. Not to much replay value in my opinion. 5/10

I enjoyed this movie. The first time i saw it i was locked up in he county doing a 12 month bid in 2001. They would show two movies starting at 7 and then at 9. Good times...lol...Still can't seem to keep my ass out of jail though.
