Howdy yall,
got an update on the short film I'm directing. So our fund raiser went very well, ended up with a budget of around $1,500. We have a locked cast now, getting together with the actors tomorrow for a script reading. We have our location, rough schedule, all props, crew, etc. I spent the weekend shooting test footage of our gore effects and man does it ever look sweet! Just got one of my actors head molded, should be done for next week. We will be shooting starting this weekend, about a 6-8 day shoot. If you guys are interested in seeing some of the production stills I've been taking I'll toss em up on this thread. Our meteors we made look amazing, everything is falling into place. Once the short film is done (Early next year) I'll definitely be posting a link so that you can all see. Mayhaps I'll also send Frightie a copy of the DVD, hopfully for a review (fingers crossed).

looking good man..yeah the HVX rocks...we shoot our feature films on it. No one ever believes that we use that little camera since it has an amazing image, everyone always thinks we use a varicam or a red.

Gunner, do you run that HVX with a Letus?
Gunner

Phibes, no letus... I wish.

We used one on UNRESTFUL. Beautiful images. You can't rent one wherever you are? Is that a 72mm ring on the HVX?
Gunner
03-18-2009, 03:31 PM
Phibes, we could rent one but it was such a small budget that it would have eaten into that. No adapter on it that I know of.
I just sent the final edit off to the audio guys, post audio and another fella scoring it. My cinematographer and myself are color timing it currently. We've also got a small group working on the opening faux cg shots.

FYI Woodenheart: typically the lenses that are sold stock on camcorders (even pro-sumer and professional models) aren't up to the task of movie work. They tend to keep everything on-screen in perfect focus. The Letus is an adapter: one end fits onto the camcorder lens and on the other end, 35mm lenses can be attached. The 35mm lenses allow one to express a better depth of field through selective focus (like keeping you in focus, but having the background slightly out of focus, driving the audience's attention solely on you). The end result is an image that looks more deliberate and more finished than a stock camcorder lens would allow. It's a great gadget that drastically improves the look of one's film.

Man I just saw the cg intro today. Looks amazingly cheesy, the dudes did it in maya. So Rad. Can't wait till you guys can see it. Total B-Cheese.
Our DOP did good with the stock lens but I agree an adapter is amazing, I've worked with them in the past on some music video shoots.
Phibes, how are things coming with your zombie film? I've got an idea, I'll send you NOTM when it's done and you can put it on your film for a bonus feature, if you like it of course haha. But I'll surly send you a copy, we will also be putting it online and sending it to a few film fests.

Gunner, I'm curious: how did you stage your fundraiser? Gimme the gory details. I've always wanted to do a fundraiser but never did.
Gunner
03-23-2009, 09:39 PM
Phibes, the fundraiser was set up by my roommate/producer. A local pub in Vancouver, Yagger's, is commonly known as a filmmaker friendly pub. We've heard of numerous other filmmakers whom have thrown fundraisers at the pub. All it took was asking him if we could have the fundraiser, he told us the available dates, we had to buy tickets to sell at the door, had to guarantee a certain number of people, the pub owner contacted a local brewery for a sponsor, the door tickets were 10 bucks (Directly into our pockets), ticket got you a free beer and entered into draws for door prizes (We bought the prizes). Bar makes money by us wanting more booze. All in all very painless.

So, I know it's been a lonnnnnnnnng time coming. But I now know when Night of the Mullets will be done. On May 12th our audio design guru, and score master will hand me the missing audio elements of the project. I'll attach this and I'm done. 5ish months, God. It's gonna be rad, I'll let you peps know when and where it's online.

So it's done, and I think it's pretty snazzy. Some really bad-ass scenes and a few issues which I had handled better... but, you live and you learn.
All in all pretty good.
We sent it off a a festival and are just waiting to hear if we got in. If we get in it won't be until August that the vid goes online (The festival wants the world premiere) but if it doesn't (Which I think it won't... only because it may be too weird), but if it doesn't, should be up within the month.
Anyways, I look forward to you guys checking it out. Should have a trailer up soon too, so I'll let you know about that.
