So I made this in about 3 hours shooting time. Shot on 16 film. I know its campy and cheesy, but I loved making it.

Heh...Simple, but effective. I could of done with out the hick accent and the grunt voice. But otherwise nice.

Not bad. The theme from "Halloween" was not necessary.

"Oh fuck." I really liked that. :mhehe:

On to the criticism that I promise I mean well by.

The sound could have been a lot better. If you can record by any means other than your camera's built-in microphone - even by plugging a different cheap microphone into a "MIC" jack on the camera - then that will cut down on noise. The mechanics in your camera can and will add a lot of hiss. If your editing software has any sound filtering capabilities, then work them just a little. I typically find that the best result for the smallest effort is a De-Ess filter followed by a compressor. Then give your finished sound a steady (volume) level. Run a Google search for "Free fonts" and make sure you have some good ad blocking software installed before clicking any links. There are a lot of decent quality freeware typefaces around. Creative Commons may provide a wealth of unique music that is legally available.

I'm being honest when I say that I liked it!

You actually had an appropriately aged person play the main character's father. I don't know or care how you did it, but it's great to see that you didn't stick some 19 year old in a dumb looking wig. That alone was a blessing.

The Jack-O-Lanterns have potential. Given the size, bulk and smell of these things, sneaking them around an unknowing victim would require either tremendous talent or a good supernatural edge. Maybe even both. That's a nice mystery to work with.

The people on screen didn't look awkward, either.

I'm obviously more of a sound person than a video one. I honestly did like this, too.

To address the Halloween theme, it was more of a joke than for actually sounds. I was going for cheesy cheese when I made it.

As for the sound parts, it was actually recorded with a Fostex. The camera was a CP-16 film camera. Not to bash the sound guy or anything, well maybe I am, but I was so wrapped up in trying to get it done that I didn't even notice he didn't use the windsock or the pistol grip but was just holding the microphone in his hand.

Another thing about working with film is that I only had a 400' roll which is roughly 11 minutes and I didn't plan it out enough and ran out of film before the money shot of him smashing the pumpkin. That is what I feel really takes away from the movie. I'm working on my second short now with all that I learned from this one. Hopefully I will get to shot it on 35mm film too.
