Only one out of that "serial killer true story" subgenre I've liked so far was Dahmer. And Zodiac was amazing as well. Not horror but pretty creepy and suspenseful.

Deranged was based on Ed Gein. Pretty creepy movie but if I remember correct, it may be hard to get a hold of now. I tend to read more true crime than I do watching it. I enjoy shows like Cold Case Files and the 1st 48 hours. I can recommend those to you if you run out of movies to watch.

Forgot about Henry...that is an intense movie. I read a review once that says it has a real depressing atmosphere that will cling to you like moss on a rock; couldn't say it any better myself. The Manson Family is also very brutal once it gets into it's final 30 minutes or so.
Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door is based on the true story of a girl who is brutalized and ultimately killed by both neighbourhood children as well as those of the woman w/ whom she lives with, all by her instruction. Reading the book now, really hard to read at times, and i've heard the movie is even worse. It gets great reviews, but it's almost too hard to watch at times.

Agreed. That is a great analogy.
I haven't seen The Girl Next Door either, but have heard the same things. I believe it's only $5 or $10 at Best Buy now. Maybe I need to pick it up. Isn't there another movie that came out recently that is based on the same case?

Not sure, but Jack Ketchum has another movie based on one of his books I believe called The Lost. Most of his books revolve around true crime. I hear this last one isn't a light movie either. This might be what you were thinking of.

There was indeed another film released about the "Girl Next Door" story. It was mentioned in the review of Girl Next Door on this site actually, but I'm far too lazy to go looking right now hahaha. It's supposed to be much more of a "horror" film than this one.
The movie is fucked right up, and I've read that some compare the atmosphere to that of Stand By Me but with the torture of a young, teenage girl in a basement. It's one of the most genuinely creepy flicks I have ever seen, and I still haven't popped it in for a 2nd go through. I just bought Henry yesterday, but I doubt it will shock me nearly as much as this one did. It's one of those ones where you don't SEE much but what you do see, mixed with what is suggested, is a bloody nightmare.

The other film based on the same story as "The Girl Next Door" is called "An American Crime" and it stars Ellen Page (Hard Candy, Juno). Both were hard films to watch in my book, but nothing compares to reading the true story both of these films and Jack Ketchum's book, was based on.
Here is the link for the entire true story if you want to read about it:
