major spoilers here

ok I've been a big fan of the deathnote anime ever since I started watching it. L is probaly one of the best characters I've seen come along in a very long time. I was such a big fan of his I bought an L t-shirt. Then they go and kill him off. Well I was royally pissed after this, it made the whole anime seem stupid considering there are like 12 episodes left after L's death and the cat and mouse aspect of it is gone. They introduce a generic version of L named Near, who is a crappy reject version of L. I'm on episode 28 right now and ever since L's death I Just cant bring myself to watch the rest of it. Is the rest of it any good? I loved Deathnote mainly because of the chemistry between L and Light. Now that thats gone the anime just seems kind of bland. Should I even bother finishing it?

I hear from others that when L dies in the series they forget about the other episodes and even the mangas. I mean that's what they said, they just didn't like the characters period. I myself have seen both the live action movies and loved Death Note already...and I've seen about 3 random episodes of the anime on tv already and it's before L's death...in my opinion I'd just take the other fans' thoughts for it and forget about the rest of the series after L's death, so they said, if it really was that bad I think it was a mistake for the manga industry or who ever helped create the manga should've ended it there.

I watched about 6 episodes of the series before I gave up. Since I had already seen the live-action movies before watching the anime, I pretty much knew everything that was going to happen, so I couldn't get into it. :shrugs:

I was kinda happy when L died, i'm a Kira supporter. The rest is just as good as the first half. Get over L and enjoy it..

I really thought the movies were better, sure the anime's pretty great, but I mean...wow....And King, I think I'm sort of a guy who is on both sides with L and Kira, though I really thought the movies put it to good rest after the second film and maybe that's how the anime and manga should've been left with.

I support Kira! :rocker:

Chief Falling Rock, you are not alone. Lots of "Death Note" fans thought the show went to crap after L's death. I still managed, but then again I was for Light all the way. Neither Near nor Mello could ever replace L, but they still carry the torch without toppling over. Just keep watching.

I may finish it one day. But I'm so pissed off at it right now it may be awhile. Apparently things go a little differently in the live action version (even though I think he still dies in the L movie). They just ruined a great anime by killing him off so soon. It was pointless.

The live action movies are absolute shit. They hired some really terrible actors for the movie, and did a poor job of handling the characters. Not to mention how many different storylines they tried to cram into the running time.

The anime series isn't much better. Very repetitive, if you've seen one episode you've pretty much seen the rest.

F' Deathnote.

Absolute shit?? Thats not what I would call the live action Death Note movie. I whould call it one of the best Japanese movies I've ever seen. The one I saw was dubbed by the voice actors from the anime, so that made it better for me. It was one of the best thrillers I've seen in awhile. The way they put the storylines togather may have been alittle rushed, but I thougt it worked out fine. Also if the actors where so terrible way did most win awards for parts they played in the movie?

Dude, I know exactly how you felt. I was rooting for L all the way. Kira was unfortunately a self righteous jerk with a god complex. His brand of Justice was ultimately fascism....well to me at least :tiphat:

As for continuing the series, it actually does manage to right itself and get better. But it never reaches the excitement of watching Kira and L go at it.

I'd say go back and finish it after awhile.

As for movies...I'm surprised some people liked them more than the series!
No offense, but I didn't think they were that great. They tried to fit 28 episodes worth of content into an hour, and it didn't exactly work. The special effects and acting all seemed rather sub-par to me too...

To each their own I suppose.

I do think the CGI shinagam were craptastic. They really could have done something better with that. I've been earing they will do a live action american version. Dunno if that will ever happen but hopefully they'll get a guy in a suit to play them. If they can make death look the way he did in Hellboy 2? Theres no excuse to CG these characters.

I'm a huge fan of Death Note, yes after L gets killed off a few episodes drag in quality, but the last 2 episodes are fucking amazing and the ending is brilliant IMO. Does anyone know of any Cat and Mouse movies/tv seris/anime/books that is similar to this? There were just so many moments when I said, "HOLY SHIT!". Nothing has come close to this anime in that aspect. Finish the series, and be sad that its over. :(

What surprised me was the way he went. The Shinigami really loved that chick. Was that demon a female, itself? Ryu? I forget the names, it's been so long.

Any anime can be quite repetitive and dragging in the series form. Also, I tried watching the live-action movies from Japan. It had such a cheap feel and not the good kind. Finding out that the lead from Battle Royale was playing Light made me mondo limp. Aren't there US versions of DeathNote / live-action?

I whould call it one of the best Japanese movies I've ever seen. You should see more Japanese movies.

Quite true. Which is why I think I've gotten out of anime as of late.

Agreed. The movies seem to have a made-for-tv quality to them, which was surprising to say the least, considering how highly praised the movies are.
