Hostel 2 <spoilers>

Been catching up on some movies lately and checked out Hostel 2 last night. Really enjoyed the first flick.

Key thing for any horror movie is to create characters that you develop some sort of concern about. Without that then really what's the point of wondering what will happen to them.

I feel like Hostel 2 accomplished that, perhaps not as good as the first one but I've seen worse.

Movie may have been a bit predictable in some ways. No suprise to me that Todd was the one who chickened out after all his bravado and Stuart turned out to be a true sociopath.

At first I was a bit skeptical about casting 2 dudes from Desperate Housewives but they did okay.

Another thing was I felt like the captivity scenes were a bit rushed and not enough of a focus. I do think that the film had good suspense though.

Overall it was different, I can't really say it was as good as I was expecting but at the end of the day I enjoyed it which is my main metric.

Disagree about the characters, I had no concern for em, just waiting for em to get fucked up. Agree about the 2 guys switching personalities, that was a good switch. The way Stuart bought it was fucked up though

Hated part 2, it's cool seeing Edwige and all but the movie sucked.
That one chick was very annoying and the pace was to bogged down.

Pace of the film didn't bother me at all, I actually thought it was quick.

It was pretty much a rehash of the first one only toned down in many ways. I didn't think it was great, but it was a decent film. I'm surprised more of you guys didn't discuss the ending, as almost every guy in the theatre I saw it in had to look away in fear and disgust... it got quite the reaction. You don't see too many films that end that way.

Plenty of hype around the ending since Eli Roth ran to every horror website and media outlet like a spaz claiming the ending to Hostel 2 as, "shocking" and "something that has never been done in horror before".

Since the first Hostel serves as probably one of the most worthless modern movies, I've never bothered with the sequel and will continue to do so. I especially have no desire to watch a movie that may in some way support Eli Roth and the delusion that he has about himself and his movies....Even though I enjoyed Cabin Fever.

Yeah he was hyping the shit out of the ending, but the movie was flat out bad.
I liked Cabin Fever to some extent and thought Hotel was pretty solid, not sure why he took 2 big steps back though.

Eli Roth is becoming such a disappointment. First comes Cabin Fever which is great, it's funny and gory and a bit of a throw back while still being original.

Then he kept making movies.

Hostel I & II both suffer from being overwhelmingly average, both movies look really good. I mean they are shot very well. But it's bland and uninteresting. A couple fun kills and both movies benefit from having cool violent ends.

But there is nothing really engaging about either one.

I actually thought the ending of Hostel 2 made it a better film than part 1. It actually stayed a horror movie throughout instead of become some kind of action movie. This was the first time Eli Roth didn't botch a film by screwing up the last 3rd of the movie like he did with Hostel & Cabin Fever.
