I just blind-bought this from a local pawn shop the other day for $8 (what a steal, huh?!). I haven't watched it cuz I have my doubts. Does anyone know if it's any good, like a classic as people have been saying?
Also, could y'all reccomend some other decent Italian or Spanish zombie epics that are entertaining? I've had my sights set on Umberto Lenzi's "Nightmare City"...

Manchester Morgue was woefully bad.
Nightmare City is a good flick, Fulci's Zombie is a classic, and I enjoyed the cheesy Hell of the Living Dead.

It's okay, not very good. I'd recommend not blind-buying anything next time :ahheh:

yeah $8 is way to much for that flick, might be worth 69cents though :starefreak:

Well I loved the movie.. watched it twice over the years.. I bought it for $0.99 on ebay :thumbup3:

I'd say give Tombs of the Blind Dead a shot. Definitely a different take on zombies.
Also man, if you're going to pay money for it, you might as well get your .99-8 dollars worth watching it. it could be a mission for the board. Watch it and critique the hell out of it if you think its shit.

Sounds like I need to see this one. As for a reccomendation, a good Italian zombie flick is Cemetery Man, starring Rupert Everett. One of my favorites. Packed with some good gore.

...directed by Michele Soavi (spelling?) if I can remember correctly. He also directed the cool Italian slasher, Stage Fright.

The gore and beautifully directed scenery are the best parts of this movie. The attacks in the cemetery and at the hospital are pretty good. Especially the axe to the zombies head. Not a bad movie...and a good 1974 horror installment.

Watched it a few hours ago. Cool gore scenes, but it was fucking weird and also pretty stupid. Dunno why this is considered one of the better European zombie flicks.

I went onto imdb and checked, gave it a 5/10. as I remember its nothing way too shitty, or way to great. Its a movie you watch once, and thats it.

You mean the Hell of The Living Dead with the National Geographic footage spliced into the film? Surely you can't mean that one...

Well Hell of the Living Dead is a really bad film, I enjoyed it's corny gore, piss poor acting, and blatant ripoffs. It truly is a terrible film but I was just flat bored with Manchester Morgue.
You should probably avoid re-watching it because it's bad, real bad :D

Speaking of lame zombie movies, what do you think of City of the Living Dead?
steelba
06-04-2009, 08:21 PM
eeehhh.. I like it to an extent..
The music is good, the atmosphere is excellent, but the movie is very uneven. There is so little zombie action that it is barely a zombie flick, I tend to think of it more as a weird supernatural film. Granted most of Fulci's films are weird, 'City' is more so than the bulk.
You gotta love the gore and maggots though...
Darkgod

Gore and Maggots.... are pretty good.

City of the living dead is incoherent and disambiguous. It has some great kills but makes no sense and doesnt have the style of The Beyond which makes up for a lack of story with some great visualizations. I found it boring and not one of Fulci's best.
Hell of the Living dead was completely awful, second only to Zombie Lake for worst zombie movie I've ever seen.

Maggots, falling like rain....lol couldn't resist!
I really miss Christopher George. You always knew you were in for a treat when you see him in a movie, double that if his wife Lynda was cast too.
I would hardly call it a boring movie, unlike some people who can't appreciate the gore and maggots because of a "lack of story". :madtongue

Dude this is one of the best horror flicks of all time! It warms up nice and slowly and then the cemetery scene is badass! Seriously, what is not to like about this film? It is 1,000 better than Hostel or any Saw film.

Point taken. I just get annoyed by the young guys today who only like modern horror. I think it is ok to like the modern stuff as long as they respect the classic gems. But you are right, I shouldn't generalize...

I did my best without any money or formal training. I ordered some sound effects on CD, bought some video editing software, fake blood, etc. I posted flyers at the drama college nearby and all actors worked for free. It has its flaws but that's ok, that's how you learn. Thanks for the support!
I'm an Ozzy Sabbath fan first, but it still sucks about Dio. he had a great metal voice. I watched the silly Holy Diver video on Youtube in his honor a few days ago...

I hear ya.
Piece of advice - no need to defend your film...until it has been seen and God forbid :D... slammed.
Love the old Sabbath with a passion.
Dio added a new dimension to an already esatablished force in music when he replaced Ozzy.

Isn't Tombs of the Blind Dead part 1 of a trilogy? I've seen Tombs but not the others.
Zombie Holocaust is not a good one. Has some good gore here and there, but pretty crappy, 'specially wit dem 'zombies' not actually being zombies...

I havent seen this movie in forever! I bought this on VHS ten years ago on a B-zombie movie binge and ended up liking it. Other movies I bought at the time - The Beyond, Zombi 2, Zombi 3, Zombi4 After Death, Zombi 5 Killing Birds, and City of the Living Dead.

On my last maniacal shopping spree I could have bought Zombi 5 Killing Birds but heard that it was a lot of shit. Is this true?
