I have a monitor/TV I bought from Best Buy about 2 1/2 years ago, and he's been pretty good so far. It's an off-brand, but it does 1080i. Lately I've been seeing some really bad color-pixels in it, and it has some burned images as well.

Thankfully, I got the protection plan, the best one you could get, and some guy is coming to fix it tomorrow. Problem is, I don't want it fixed. I want something newer, something actually name brand (the guy that sold it to me assured me this company would be competing with sony and samsung, of course the company is no longer in business). If best buy can't fix my tv after three attempts, i get a new one. Or in this case, I imagine I'll get the original price for it. Has anybody dealt with a situation similar to this? My biggest fear is that he'll actually fix it, then I'm stuck with this instead of a 120hz 1080p television.

Another question is, does HDMI have an audio lag?? I really want to get GH:WT, but I'm not gonna get it if there's a lag. Of course the TV I have now lags because it's only got component.

I don't notice any audio lag in HDMI, I don't think it exists with it. :D

When it comes to tv anything, I don't know squat. I had heard that this was true, but I still wanted to be sure before I spend all that money on GH and it lag. That calibrating shit doesn't work for me. If it's not spot on I can't take it.

Chances are he won't be able to fix it. It sounds to me like your TV is slowly starting to die or lose its picture anyway.

Yes, HDMI audio can lag with certain TV's and/or hardware you have connected to it. I've heard of some audio lag with a TV I have when hooked to digital cable with certain programs. It's not very common though (I don't think).

If you're looking for a good quality TV, stick with Sony or Samsung. Panasonic and Pioneer are aight as well. Stay away from smaller brands unless you're more interested in saving money than getting something that would look good and last long.

I picked this one up recently: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102197

What I'm hoping is if they don't fix it, I'll get a plain refund and then put that down on a 120hz Sony/Samsung 1080p. I want my PS3 to look as good as it can.

Too bad I have to go through this shit 3 times before they break down and do it. No skin off my back though.

If they can't fix your set, and you do have an extended warrenty on it. As you've said the company the set is from went out of business. I've dealt with Best Buy before, and all I can say is don't hold your breath on any kind of a refund. If the set has to be replaced and is still under the warrenty it's more than likely that they'll set you up with an equivallent set of equal value from another company. More than likely it won't be any of the bigger name brands unless you're lukier than I am and they give in a little bit. Just something I've gone through some time ago

Never had a problem with Best Buy.

Wouldn't dream of using component cables with my HDTV and Blu-Ray.

HDMI wont lag...whatever you plug it into will.

If you connect it to an audio receiver and apply a processing filter (Orchestra, Rock, whatever) it will induce a lag. Most good receivers have anti-lag features built in.

Stick to name brand TVs..., Fright gave a good list there, Panasonic being the Bang-for-your-buck pick. I'm a big Pioneer fan too, best picture quality I've seen.

As for GHWT laging, their calibration tool is pathetic compared to Rockband 2's. If you are having doubts and wont get the game because of lag then Rockband 2 is the way to go then. (of course I would recommend RB2 over GHWT, even though I own both)

I don't like RB2 as much as Guitar Hero.

Anyway, I hope they don't screw me on this deal. I'm gonna be pissed. Basically I was lied to and coerced into buying this POS. I told them I knew nothing about TVs, and they saw that as a chance to clear it out. I'm very unhappy about this and I will let them know that.

Once I clear the best buy card, it's the next to do when they have the 36 mo no interest that is.

DAMN THEM AND THEIR FINANCING OPTIONS!!!

Unhooked my TV, carried the damn thing by myself to the living room, and they never showed up to get it. Called best buy today and they said my "warranty didn't go through." So i politely replied with "What the fuck?" and they preceeded to tell me that i had a warranty, but something just didn't work out right.

They rescheduled it for tomorrow, so now it's even longer to wait. And I got Resistance 2 yesterday for $11 and Heavenly Sword coming from Fright.
