A couple nights ago I was playing NBA 2K8 online and in the middle of a game it stopped and said there was a network error and game couldn't be completed. I was tired and said fuck it and shut it down and went to bed. Now tonight I turn on the system and it wont read any discs, I can't even hear the drive trying to work. Playstation support says it probably needs service so my question is has anyone else had a problem similar and if so what did you do to fix it?

No 360 here, I've been a Playstation guy from day 1 but now I'm thinking that maybe the dvd drive is out

Sucks to here. Contact sony, they should have a warranty in effect. (360 does)

I'm checking playstation support online right now but all the system comes with is a 1 year limited warranty and I bought mine Nov 07 so I'm afraid it's going to be out of warranty

Did you turn it on and off?

txjeff07

Yeah, I've shut it down about 5 times and even unplugged it and let it sit for 60 seconds and when I turn it back on the home screen comes up but when I put a disc in it just sits there and I have to use the eject button on the front instead of using the triangle button option like I usually do. It's just wont recognize a disc, really pissing me off. Playstation support says 149 bucks for out of warranty just to look at it and I think I'm 2 months out of warranty

I don't usually get extended warranties because I take care of my stuff real well and never had anything break. Now I'm trying to find my receipt to see if maybe I got the extended warranty, might have to call Best Buy and have them look it up

Anytime I buy something from Best Buy they always try to sell me extended warranties and it pisses me off sometimes so right when they start I just say no, kinda hope I was smart when I bought my PS3 but I doubt it

that stinks, if my PS3 died I wouldnt know what to do. How much is Sony ofering to fix it for?

If worse comes to worse and you need to get a new one try and get a sony card:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644595898

You get $100 off a 299 or more purchase...it will lessen the blow.

Just got off the phone with Playstation support and let me tell you those guys are worthless, they don't even try to help you troubleshoot the problem. Seems like they don't even want to know what your problem is, all he kept telling me was I need to send it in and have it serviced. So I filled out the online service request and as soon as it's processed I will be sent a package including shipping boxes and specific instructions on how to send it. I just downloaded an update a week before my problem, maybe it's a coincidence, I don't know. Now after system restore and default setting restore all my saved files are gone, not a huge deal but still sucks. I'm 2 months out of warranty so it's going to cost me $161.29 :(. Sucks but I need to get it fixed, don't need a $400 paperweight

Now that I have to send it in I want to play it more than ever, funny how that happens:dunno:

If mine ever craps out I'm probably just going to get a new one considering the prices are gonna drop again soon :smokin2:

My PS3 nightmare justs gets better and better. I had to put a credit card number on file with them yesterday when I ordered the service request. They already charged my account and I'm still looking at my PS3 in my living room. WTF, don't you normally pay for something after it's fixed:dsp:

That blows, I hate sending stuff in to get fixed. Good luck with the whole mess man. Hope everything turns out good in the end.

Package to send it in was supposed to get to me 1-19 and I didn't get it until 1-23 and barely got it to UPS before 5:whew:. Disappointed that it took 4 extra days to get here since I paid for the repair already but hopefully it will get back to me quick

Well my PS3 finally arrived today after sitting on a UPS truck for 3 days, they claimed "address problems". Upon first glance after opening the package everything seemed to be in order, system looked just like I sent it, like brand new(no scratches or blemishes) so I was pleased. Upon further inspection I realized it was a completely different system, different serial number. I called them and they tell me that they "exchange" systems. I was under the impression they would repair mine and send it back, they say they do it like this to have a faster turnaround so people don't have to wait so long. Ok I guess I just hope I don't have any problems with this one, only get a 90 day warranty from Sony now

Same here. I'll take the hit in the bank account over the hassle of phone tag with customer support, mailing stuff off, hoping they fix it, and waiting for stuff to get back if ever. That is worth far more than a few hundred bucks in my book...
