Plot:
After Alfred "Alferd" Packer mysteriously loses a group of miners he was leading to Colorado, he's being accused for cannibalism and is sentenced to be executed by hanging. While waiting for the hanging day, Alferd tells Polly Pry, a reporter (who denies that she is one), what actually happened on the trip. Now Polly Pry slowly starts to believe his side of the story.

Our thoughts:
Writing a review for this film will be hard because there is no way I will be able to do the film justice. It's my favorite comedy ever, and even though I always say that "Evil Dead", "Demons" and "Dellamorte Dellamore" are my three all time favorites, this one would is up there with them too.

Made by the comical genius Trey Parker, along with Matt Stone in a role, you know you'll get something different, and I would have to say that this film is just that. It was their first film, that they made while still in film school. Ironically, Trey got kicked out from school because he focused on the film instead, and now he's up there with the most famous. There's also no surprise that Trey's first film in a musical since music is what he was good at first, and I think I do remember that he originally went a music school but changed to film later, or something along the lines of that.

The plot is based on an actual cannibal with the same name, who actually was the first convicted cannibal in the U.S, and the only ever in Colorado's history. There is no proof of Alferd actually being a cannibal, and Trey did the smartest thing he could when making this movie - he made the movie following the story that Alferd Packer himself told people. He followed his exact story in many ways, which surprised me when I started to read up on this cannibal. Some things are made up by Trey though, of course, and I'm guessing alot of the singing is one of those things. Not being too big of a fan when it comes to musical, I'm happy to say that it's one of the best musicals I have seen, because Trey is a great musician, and they never put songs in the film just because they felt they wanted to sing a cool song they just wrote, but they always let the songs help the story. That's something I feel alot of musicals fail on, because songs get boring in musicals if they're pointless. The songs are very well written and catchy, and anyone can sing along to them.

My personal favorite song is of course "Let's Build A Snowman", which is sunged by the most wonderful character in the movie. His name is Swan, a guy who throughout the whole film always stays positive. A man steps in a bear trap, and Swan, the optimist that he is, says "Atleast you didn't get your head caught in that thing", and smiles. This is one of the many golden things he say. Except for this sunshine of a man, Alferd Packer is also leading a priest with a hot temper, a butcher who doesn't want to butch, a kid who only wants sex and a moron who can't cook. The movie has several things that fans of "South Park" and their other films will enjoy, not only the same gay undertone that Trey and Matt has to their friendship, which we all love, but much because they included things from this film in other projects. Like the hidden alien visitors you see here and there, and the cat who sings with almost exactly Cartman's voice.

The acting is top notch at all times, and it's hard to believe that this film was made mostly by students and not real high payed actors. We can see more of Trey and Matt's acting in many other films, but they are not the only good actors in here, I literally think that every single actor we get to see in this film are amazing. Especially the Indian Chief, and you'll understand when you've seen the film.

Except for the first scene, there isn't really much gore, splatter or blood at all. Don't expect a party of blood, because you're not getting one. The VHS I originally bought of this film here in Sweden called it a "Splatter", but that's bullshit beyond imagination. Enjoy the introduction scene that has some really exciting blood, and then let the movie get on with it, because it's still great. I'm lying if I say I don't want more blood in it though, of course.

I think I gave the movie a fair review. Obviously this is a film that everyone has to see, because it's perfect in every single way and it's funnier than anything I have ever seen, and it's just as good as a musical. I might give you real high expectations, but I don't care. If you don't like it, this kind of comedy isn't your cup of tea, and then you probably don't enjoy their other things either. If you do check this film out and love it, I suggest you look up some of their other things: "South Park" (of course), "Orgazmo", "BASEketball", "That's My Bush", "Team America", "Princess" and last but certainly not least, their show "Time Warped" that only aired two episodes. If you can find it.

Positive things:
- The amazing songs. Trey is a talent.
- Funny as fuck!
- Follows the story the real Alferd Packer told people.
- Good gore in the beginning.
- Released by Troma.
- Beautiful environments. Mountains, snow, woods, desert/sand, etc.

Negative things:
- If I absolutely have to find something negative, it would be that the only blood in the film is in the first scene. But it doesn't bother me. Really.

Rating:
Gore: 1/5
Nudity: 0/5
Story: 4/5
Effects: 3/5
Comedy: 5/5

Great review, and I must agree, it is one of my favorites. However, I do disagree about your gore rating. There was the begining, the bear trap, Swans head shot, the final showdown between Packer and, well I am drawing a blank. Not to mention the really low grade decapitation at the end. Other than that, a solid review.

I think 1 is a pretty good rating. The other scenes are tiny amounts and barely deserve half a point. It's in no way a gory film, but a movie that has some gore in it.

It deserves at least a two for gore. I also forgot the scene with the cyclops, and the puss. The gross factor comes into play with that one.

Then write a review and give it a 2 in your review, I don't think it deserves more than 1.

And "atleast a two", like you could go higher? 'Cause I'm starting to think you haven't seen that many films with gore in them if that's the case.

Quit getting so testy. I was providing some constructive criticism. You don't need to take offense. I liked your review, as I said, I mean you even researched about Alfred Packer (although there were historical incongrueties in the film, but it is to be expected.) Just felt you were forgetting a little about the gore it did have. As far as "starting to think you haven't seen that many films with gore in them if that's the case", seriously? That's pretty funny, you know, I've never seen anything where people's entrails are dragging behind them, or some one having intercourse with a severed head. Never, lmao. Also, if you were to give each scene a "barely half a point" in that matter like you said, it would get at least a rating of two.

I don't mind criticism at all, I answered what you said with saying I thought 1 was a good rating for it. I also said you should write your own review, because why not? I seriously thought that would be a good idea.

How can you blame me for thinking you haven't seen gory scenes before when you made it sound like you could give C!TM over 2 out of 5? Seriously. And intercourse with a severed head doesn't have to be gory, and entrails dragged behind doesn't say much. Stop trying to prove that you have seen gory things, I really don't care, and it has nothing to do with the point.

I never said I'd give each scene "barely half a point", I meant together, and I don't really give out like..1.25/5, so therefor it's 1.

Oh and I didn't research about Alferd for the review, if that's what you meant, I did it way back out of interest.

And thank you for liking it, since I apparetly forgot to add that.

I'd consider a 1/5 for gore to be a movie like Goonies or Poltergeist, some bodies strewn about but no blood.

The intro scene and the other ones levil666 mention bring it to a very pessimistic 2...I'd even go as far as a 3 IMO.

But I didn't review it and it's just a number anyways...quit being so testy Metapher, no need to insult levil666's viewing experience.

If I wrote for a normal news paper or whatever, maybe I would give this film more, but I write the reviews for a site that focuses on underground movies.

understandable, looking at some of the stuff on your site I can see how it rates a 1 and some of the others rate higher :coolbeer:

Didn't look at it in that light. Am I correct to understand that your site is Film Bizarro? If so, I see what you are talking about... you have some pretty brutal flicks listed/reviewed on there. From that perspective, I can agree with a one for gore, I was just looking at it from the perspective that Strt mentioned above, no need for anymore hostility. Can there be peace?

Yeah it's Film Bizarro.
Sure, peace is good. I'm not really a hostile person.

I admit, i was expecting gore when I first watched it and I was a little let down, doesn't mean it is an awesome movie, 'cause it is. One of my favourite comedies. Trey Parker really knows how to make a great and entertaining film.

Nice review :coolbeer:

Yeah they slowly get drunk in the commentary, and in the end they just leave to go to a stripclub.
