The Thing and The Blob are mine.
Though TCM remake was decent, it is nothing compared to the dirty original.
Also, Aja's THHE remake was top notch horror filmmaking IMO.
I know people hate remakes, but I sincerely think F13 will be good simply for the fact that it's the first F13 movie in, well forever to actually have a production value and the people behind the camera care about the franchise and not the money.

Cronenberg's The Fly and the Carpenter The Thing pretty much wrote the book on the remake.
Being a big fan, though, if it can be counted as a remake, I have to cast a vote for Hammer Studios' 1958 The Horror of Dracula w/ Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

Not really a remake as much as it is a more faithful adaptation to "Who Goes There? (http://www.outpost31.com/books/who.txt) than "The Thing From Another Planet" was.

Although you are technically right, the thing is still classed as a remake, and as pretty much everybody else has said, is the best remake.

In most arenas people look at it as a remake, but not all my friend. I used to refer to Carpenter's "The Thing" as a remake too, not anymore, because it isn't. There are very few similarities between "The Thing From Another World" and "The Thing."

I'm not really sure if the Body Snatchers movie could be classified as a remake but if I had to choose it would be tops on my list since The Thing doesn't really qualify.
DOTD was one of the better ones but it seems it lost some of the (forgive the pun) bite from the deliberate jabs at consumerism Romero was making. I especially enjoy the quote about the mall "This place was important to them". Great line!
The Zombie Halloween also runs pretty high on my list. Granted it's hard to compare it to the original, but the pure rage exhibited in The Shape is what made the movie fun for me.
The My Bloody Valentine remake is also quite entertaining. I always found the original somewhat mediocre, but Lussier did a fantastic job with taking a marginal movie and making it a very fun experience.

you obviously don't have any taste levil666, who cares what you think!!!
Any George A Romero fan would agree that the only relation the "remake" of Dawn of the Dead had to the original was that it took place in a mall. Also, zombies aren't fast paced (the idea is ripped from Boyle's infected) and that although Dawn of the Dead had it's moments like the live-still birth, it is not a good remake. As a movie by itself, it is decent. However, you are entitled to your opinion. The original surpassed it alone, not only in originality, but also in its social commentary. It didn't even have the bikers from the original, but of course you would know that, had you seen the original, or had an idea of what zombies are... it's ok, you'll learn eventually.

I'm a GAR fan and I don't agree with that. His influence is all over that remake, media coverage, survivor guilt and ingenuity, isolation. I for one am glad it wasnt a scene for scene copy...that would suck. Seeing a different take on the same concept can be a double edged sword, is it as good as the original? No. Is it one of the better zombie movies of the last 10 years? Yes.
Oh and though people like to attribute it to Mr. Boyle, he didnt invent "running zombies" that has been around long before him. Check out RotLD again if you don't beleive me. There are others as well before that.

I stand corrected. Still not a big fan, but meh, remakes are hit and miss I guess, depending on the viewer. General I know, but for me, I guess it is just not how I would have liked to see DOTD remade. I'll wallow in solace now... :sadwalk:

The Dawn remake is as dumb as it is pointless ...period.
Tons of plot holes, dumb story, and unbelievable scenes. Best remake? For those with the mind of a child I suppose. Was like watching a cartoon.
This movie was lucky Sarah Polley and Jake Weber signed on, otherwise forget it. Total garbage.

Well I also think that the remake of Dawn was okay, sure it's almost an entire different story but I had fun when I watched and in the end that's movies suppose to do. I'm not going to say that is a great movie just is not a bad one, rent it at your own risk.

I like Dawn of the Dead (2004), it's not as good as the original, but overall it works. The first 20 minutes or so I thought was very good.

Now you're not making any sense n00b. You just make blanket statements without any kind of thought, and then attack anyone who might be critical of your views. Kinda sad when you think about it, especially since you just got owned. Might I also add that the beginning of your statement is actually a justification for drug usage. Try proofreading if you want to make a valid attack, because with this, it just comes off as silly. You still haven't addressed the fact that pretty much all slashers involve one type of drug usage or another. :smokin2:

2. the grudge 1 and 2 - :nono:
3. night of the living dead - Before drug usage was acceptable
4. land of the dead - Used a futuristic drug. Leguizamo was a junkie
5. the exorsist - "the Exorcist" involved heavy drinking, and at one point I am more than certain the mom sparks one with the director, or maybe I am remembering the book.
6. hellraiser - Of course not, but she did have an IV of morphine :D
7. i know what you did last summer - Involved drinking and driving, which is far worse than sitting at home "frying your brain."

Only a handful of remakes that I like over the originals.
The Blob
The Fly
The Thing
Night of the Living Dead
The Hills Have Eyes
Remakes that dont even come close to the originals.
Halloween
TCM
Black Christmas
DOTD pure crap
The Hitcher
Just my opinions.

DOTD doesn't need to come close to the original, it's just way too awesome for that!!! I'll agree with you on the Black Christmas remake, now that went into the bowels of the horror movie industry!!!

I really liked the Hills Have Eyes remake and the My Bloody Valentine remake. Oh, the Toolbox Murders remake is one I don't hear many people talk about....but that one was pretty damn cool too.
Most of the remakes suck balls though and the remakes are no where NEAR as good as the original films. Enjoyable to a degree, sure.

The Dawn remake gets a lot of hate but it is one of the best zombie movies of the last 10 years...people unjustly hate it because the original is so very loved by people in the horror community. I for one like it, I don't think it holds a candle to the original but pretty much no horror movie does...it does stand on its own as a solid zombie flick that pays homage to the greatness that the original was
