Anna can’t seem to get over her mothers death, and after leaving a Psych Facility, she learns that Daddy’s new girlfriend is the nurse who looked over her mother. Anna and her sister Alex decide to do some investigating, and perhaps discover much more than they want too.
The Uninvited, is actually one of those pieces of teenage PG-13 films that is a diamond among all the pieces of shit. It follows some of the clichés that the genre brings, the ghosts, the creaks, but this film uses those and works with it. It exceeds above the clichés and actually ends up becoming a good little mystery film. This is not a horror film, and I’ll let you know that. It follows the lines between mystery/ghost story.
The acting is done very well from the two main girls, they play along greatly with the story, and look even greater being scared. I was kinda annoyed with them in swimsuits in the trailer because I felt like it was trying to market it to the youngins but in the film it works very well. Elizabeth Banks is good as the devilish new girlfriend of the father.
I do have to say though the one thing that made this film stand out was the cinematography/set design, it was really just a beautiful film to look at, the colors, the clothing, the camera, everything. It was funny that a film like this, would have such great images.
In the end, I really enjoyed it. It was a creepy little film, that had a ending that I did not see coming at all. The trailer implies so many things, but you go into the movie thinking you know what’s going to happen and it doesn’t. The scares are plenty, and the story is solid. It doesn’t leave you hanging, and doesn’t leave you with unanswered questions. A surprisingly film.
