I'm not sure if there is already a thread about this. If so please delete this.

Out of the now 12 based Jason films I would have to say that my favorites are the original Friday the 13th 1 & 2 as well as Part 6. Six is probably my all time favorite though.

Part III because it was probably the thing that really, really got me into horror movies. Seeing that opening scene at the Crystal Lake general store scared the SHIT out of me as a kid.

But part IV is a close second for so many awesome things, mainly the good ole' fat banana eating hitchhiker.

Then part II because it also was rather scary growing up. For some reason the more human/realistic Jason would scare me more than if he was resurrected by a lightning bolt... go figure.

Here's my order:

4 - feldman, gore, scary Jason, awesome
2 - the more i watch it the more I like it
7 - Best zombie Jason, hodder rules in it
1 - classic, good kills
6 - comedic value is way up there
3 - ok kills, ending blows
FvJ - good high budget slasher fun
2009 - a solid entry but could have been better
X - great kills, fun watch, not as bad as everyone makes it out to be
Hell - missing Jason, decent gore, absurd plot
8 - worst friday ending ever, was barely in Manhattan
5 - fucking terrible

In order with the remake included.

1. Jason Lives (had it all, including the actual kids at the campsite outside of Part 1)
2. The Final Chapter (great kills, epic ending)
3. The New Blood (great kills, epic final battle)
4. Part 3 (Jason retrieves his iconic mask)
5. Part 2 (arguably the scariest incarnation of Jason in the series imo)
6. Part 1 (epic final chase with Betsy and Adrienne)
7. Remake (modern take on an old formula that worked)
8. A New Beginning (NOT the worst sequel in the series at all)
9. Jason Takes Manhattan (With a better budget, this could have been good)
10. Freddy vs Jason (good splatter fest, nice final battle)
11. Jason Goes To Hell (underrated Jason when he was actually on screen)
12. Jason X (the absolute worst in the series, I have a hard time watching it at all)

In order;

-2,6; tied for favorites with me
-1; think it's a lot of fun
-4; really strong sequel, feldman rules
-7,3; Jason looks fucking bad ass in 7, 3 was a good watch
-2009; could have been better, could have been worse.
-X; meh, it's as good as a Jason in space movie can be I suppose
-8,5; both really weak
-9; ugh...not a good idea

Don't really include Freddy vs Jason since it leans towards more of a Nightmare film....but I thought it was a lot of fun. Epic finale made up for any weak points.

GoreCunt - Definitely a great kill

Damian - Jason X is still better than part V. Very underestimated, esp with lines like "He's screwed Sarge"
Yeah, just watched X...

Anyway, best kill, for me, will always be part II when the handicapable guy gets the machete to the face and then pushed down the stairs. Priceless, rewound that SO many times my first time watching it...

Best entry for me though, gonna go with a tie between IV and VII. Can't choose between the feldmeister and the telekinetic chick. Both rocked.:metalbang:

I don't like how a lot of people hate on part five. I would be fine with it if they had problems with something other than "it's not Jason," but that's the consistent thing they bitch about. As if that affects every other aspect of the movie.

steelba
06-19-2009, 01:06 PM
They could also bitch that the film 'looks' different than any of the others. I'm not sure what film stock they shot it on but it has more of a soap opera look than the other films did.

As far as the Killings go it was one of the better ones, and I like it more than parts 8,9,10...

Yes it's the H3 of the series but I still think it was alright

It is not the Halloween 3 of the series. That would imply that the Jason Voorhees story was not involved in anyway. Jason is very much a part of it, in fact, I would go as far as saying that it incorporates the character of Jason more than any other Friday the 13th film.

EDIT

Ah, fuck. I think you were referring to part five. But oh well. Same thing. Jason Voorhees was involved in part five, Michael Myers is non existent in Halloween 3. In that Silver Shamrock universe, Halloween is a movie. We even see it advertised on the television in the bar. Jason Voorhees is very real in A New Beginning. It doesn't ignore the previous films like Halloween 3.

Throw in my 2 cents I guess:

F13 '80: It may be a horror classic but I thought it was boring for the most part. At least it offered decent kills.

Part 2: I don't understand the love this flick gets. It's easily one of my least favorites.

Part 3: Again, slow-paced but offered the best kills so far and I enjoy the showdown in the barn.

Part 4: My second fave. Wicked kills, resplendant nudity, likable characters, a memorable showdown, a sense of mean-spiritedness, the works.

Part 5: A guilty pleasure. Sure it may not really be Jason, but I get a kick outta the white-trash atmosphere the flick has goin on. Also, you can't go wrong with the fact that it has a large body count and the most onscreen kills, even if most of them are tame.

Part 6: My absolute favorite entry. I love the comedy/action angle, as well as the memorable characters and wicked kills. Plus zombie-Jason and lots of Alice Cooper!

Part 7: Decent at best. The kills were okay but obviously very heavily cut as a few vids on Youtube will show you.

Part 8: Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but still lousy. So-so kills and lame characters, but an interesting atmosphere.

Part 9: As another horror movie altogether, entertaining. As an F13 movie, avoid. But it does have lots of gore to help at least.

Part 10: Cheesey as hell but somehow entertaining. Lots extremley annoying characters but also lots of crazy kills.

FVJ: Other than the final battle, lousy.

Remake: Pretty good. A fair body count and great T&A, but annoyingly-muddled photography and a dumb ending. Also, no suspense at all.

A few reasons other than the cop-out ending. (How does a man who hasn't seen his illegitimate retarded son in years have an up to date pic of him in his wallet?)
I acdtually dig the kills in it, as well as the goofy backwoods folk. However, I was really let down by the incongruence of the feature. Meaning, the very end. Jarvis was a badass character, and the direction they took him really disappointed me. It was foolish to set him up as the next Jason, and that was what truly ruined it for me. Fuck V, except for Reggie the Reckless. Kid was funny as shit.

What I don't understand is the love-fest for part 6. It's horrid. The kills are weak and the attempt at humor is an embarrassment to the franchise.

And I'm not sure what makes part 5 that much worse than the rest of the films.

Part 6 is awesome... it has the last true feel of a fth13 movie

I concur even though I truly don't believe there is unwatchable film in the Paramount bunch of the series.

Brief summary without the New Line bunch

F13 - Isn't as good as some of the sequels but still works.

F13 Part 2 - Probably the scariest Friday the 13th outside of Part 4.

F13 Part 3 - Many love the characters in this but I don't dig them that much but the kills were fun.

F13 Part 4 - The pinnacle of the series, my 2nd favorite and Ted White was the most vicious Jason.

F13 Part 5 - Continuing the Jarvis saga, a high body count, ending left a bit to be desired but it works and for those who left the series, many point to this one to having the last tone the previous 4 had.

F13 Part 6 - This is the junction point of the series but I would agree it has some feel of the previous 5. It concludes the Jarvis portion of the series which was the strongest point of the series. Giving Jason a rival was one of the little underrated aspects of Parts 4 through 6. Jason wanted to get Jarvis in this movie.

The movie features a kickass soundtrack, creative kills which were butchered by the MPAA. By the time Part 5 rolled around, these movies were cut to pieces. It also features kids at the campsite which no other film besides the original to that point had which as Tom said many times raised the stakes for Part 6.

It also featured IMO one of the more underrated hot chicks in the series with Jennifer Cooke who had some spunk that other girls in the series really did not have. As well as actual cops involved in the story for once.

Yeah maybe the humor was a bit strange and out of place for a Friday movie but I thought it was a nice change of pace for the series as well as some of the action scenes in the movie which make it stand out from a typical Friday movie.

F13 Part 7 - I view this one as a poor mans version of the Final Chapter. Same basic setup only with Tina and the Dr Crews story arc replacing the family next door in the Final Chapter. It had the best looking Jason and probably the definitive zombie Jason even though I had no problem with CJ in Jason Lives. The kills were great if not for the MPAA.

F13 Part 8 - Works better if you don't put much stock into it. I thought the kills were fine and the finale in NY was good and probably would have been better with a bigger budget. Only weakness was the ending IMO.
