Plot:
Millard Mudd is a sloppy alcoholic cartoon movie writer, but he's had a writer's block for a very long time and is slowly moving towards the edge of insanity. This is when his life takes a turn. One night he accidently hits a dog with his car. Since Millard was under the influence at the time, he brought the dog back to his place instead of calling the cops. A week goes by and the dog is still sleeping in Millard's bed, and one day Millard discovers that the dog, Lucky, is dead. Off to bury him in the yard, Lucky suddenly wakes up. Millard soon discovers that there's something special about Lucky; that he can talk. Telepathically that is. Finally does Millard have a friend, and things have never looked so good for Millard. Lucky helps him write, and Millard even gets a girlfriend. Life is just swell, until killing becomes a big part of their lives.

What a weird movie "Lucky" was. I had heard it was sort of a dark comedy, but it turned out to be alot more morbid and twisted than I had imagined it would be. It's an independent product, and you can tell, but it was done just right.
All I really knew about the plot was that it was about a writer in the middle of a writer's block, and him getting a dog that tells him what to write, and who also makes him kill people. It's a bit more complicated than that actually. It turns out that Millard was actually a very weird person from the beginning, and we notice that fast through the narration the film has. Millard is a thinker. His mind is filled with questions and thoughts about stuff like infinity. The movie is 80% dialogue and monologue. Not because nothing is happening, but because there is just so much talking, sometimes between the dog and him, and mostly it's just Millard narrating. It's not a bad thing though, it's actually a rather nice touch that anyone who's had a writer's block can relate to. The mind wanders off to the oddest of places sometimes. Aside from Millard's not-always-so-intelligent thinking, he's doing naughty stuff with his girlfriend, Misty, every night. Misty is a girl that exists in his mind. Safe to say, his dog talking to him is far from the strangest thing about him, that's for sure. The film keeps surprising the audience by bringing several oddities into the plot. Insanity, murder, fantasy BDSM sex and even necrophilia are a few of them.
It's not a gory movie, as it's mostly just very psychological and strange. The movie could've went into a massacre-ish direction with Millard going crazy and killing people in the most gruesome ways, but it was all about him, his mind, the dog and the writing all the way through the film. A very smart move I believe, 'cause it certainly made the film more interesting, let alone unique.
The nudity was a surprise too. This movie actually has a nice amount of it, which I didn't expect. We have several shots of Misty's tits, and they're not bad. Of course, Millard and Misty never have sex, so it's all in his head, when he's fantazising about stuff like slapping and torturing her.
Overall, it was an odd ride. There was plenty of talking so don't watch it if you are sleepy. "Lucky" is very funny but dark and morbid look into one man's writer's block and the insanity that follows. It is an independent film, but anyone could appreciate this, no doubt about that. As long as you aren't easily offended.
Positive things:
- Alot more unique than I was expecting.
- Tits!
- Necrophilia! Oh, c'mon, don't look at me like that! We all know that necrophilia can be plenty of fun!
- Millard was very well played.
- When Millard tells us about the girls he's dated before. Among them are a nun and his shemale half-sister.
Negative things:
- I wish the dog would've literally talked, not just telepathically.
- I was tired when I watched it, so I had a hard time to concentrate on the talking at times.
- Anyone expecting a bunch of gore will be let down.
