Prince of Horror

To start things off I have to say that I am pleased with this film. I haven’t seen the original yet but I’ve heard some very positive things about it. I think that this new P.O.V. style should be used in more movies, especially slasher films and remakes, but if it can be done the right way, such as Dairy Of The Dead, then it shouldn’t be done at all. But the execution for this worked out perfectly.
The film is about this reporter, who is doing a story on firemen, showing what they do when they are not getting calls and such. They get a call to go to this apartment complex, where an old lady was reportedly screaming horribly. There they meet a series of characters, and two police officers. They bust into the lady’s room to find her bloody with saliva dripping from her mouth. As one of the officers tries to come to her aide, she takes a bite his neck! OUCH!
Now panicking, everyone tries to get out of the building, but they are sealed in by the military, due to the building being infected. Now everyone in the building fight for their lives as people start getting infected left and right.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this film. The P.O.V. was very effective, especially in the scares department. The gore was pretty decent, wanted more as usual, but it was decent. That’s another thing I liked about the film, it actually had suspense, and kept us interested and didn‘t need gore to scare us.
The characters are interesting, but some are very agitating, especially Jennifer Carpenter’s character. I don’t think her performance was that bad, but it was a little over the top.
Some scenes were very tense filled, especially since they are on camera. I didn’t find the night vision scene that tense but more agitating with Jennifer Carpenter’s aggravating character. I think the running scenes were the best.
The movie does have it’s clichés, such as people trying to go to someone’s aide how looks infected and ends up getting bitten, walking into the room where there is an infected person lurking, and waiting hesitantly to shoot somebody. Then I found out what caused the virus before it even came down to them exposing it. Then there were times when I felt as if the group could have done more to fend off against the infected, but they all just ran around screaming and hollering, but the camera man did some good damage with his camera. Now here’s a funny thing, if you are living in an apartment, shouldn’t you have a kitchen where there should be knives or something, and did anyone besides the police have a gun?
Though the movie did have it’s faults, it was pretty entertaining , and the characters where somewhat interesting, so I decided to give this a 7, but I would have gave it an 8 if it weren’t for the lame ass ending.
Give it a rent and be ready for a thrill ride.
I do want to know one thing. Who in the hell would be holding a camera with all that shit going on?
