What's this Anime?

All I can tell you from what I remember as a child was the ending to what seemed to be an Anime movie of some kind, it looks pretty mature but anyways, I was watching this on tv and this is what I can remember it from:

THIS IS AT THE END OF THE MOVIE

-Some crazy-looking guy is in (some sort of hospital room maybe?) and with a weird cat.
-All the people in the city start to feel a sudden earthquake or something and they just suddenly clap their hands together and pray.
-Then we see a giant robot that looks like millions of cars are body parts and the robot has a white and black-haired head of a grinning buda. And it's saying something like "Now, come, let's you and I go on the beach together..." as if she was talking to the old man or something.
-And then before the credits role I think we hear a sonic boom of some sort and all the people in the city are screaming as if they're getting annihalated.

What is this Anime?

I asked my anime friend over the phone and he said it doesn't really sound familiar. He said you may also be getting dif. animes mixed together. I'm gonna get him to check out this post whenever he drops by again, so he can read everything you said yourself, but I have to agree with him, I think you may be getting different animes jumbled together. :hmmm:

It may be an anime movie of its own story, not based on any anime series...and this was in the '90s when I saw it on tv...I just remember seeing the ending of the movie, apologies that I wasen't specific before..

Spoke to my anime friend and he said it sounds a lot like the anime series Tokko, but that's a recent anime, so probably not the one you're looking for. He also mentions that you may referring to scenes in the 90's anime series Devilman. Either way, chances are that you're getting it mixed up with other animes.

Betterman? Just saying that because I haven't seen that anime since the times of techtv having anime shows shown at night time (can't remember what it was called, but it introduced me to Betterman and Soultaker).

The hospital room, giant robot, the cat and the old man makes me think that the movie you might be referring to is Roujin Z.

I don't recall an apocalyptic ending or people clapping, I think there might have been a Buddha face on the robot but I'm not too entirely sure. Though I'm pretty sure the movie is Roujin Z, so I'd recommend checking that out.

My friend is almost positive it's a 4-episode OVA entitled Apocalypse Zero. Here's a clip that might spark some memories:

I've actually seen images of that anime, I've never seen it and it doesn't look familiar, but it could be something I'll check out with Roujin Z...
