Growing Op (2008)
Directed By: Michael Melski
Cast:
Steven Yaffee
Wallace Langham
Rosanna Arquette
Katie Boland
Rachel Blanchard
PLOT: Here we have the Dawson Family, which they have their own Marijuana growing operation. Hint the name "Growing Op". It's for their own use. The Main Character being Quinn Dawson, who helps his parents & sister (neo-hippies) grow their own personal weed. With Quinn wanted to experience the real world (with his parents sheltering him from the real world). He wants to enrole into high school (being home schooled his whole life) cause of the girl that moved in next door. He soon finds out, outside his house isn't what its cut out to be. Soon he finds out its better to be the "Weed Expert" which ends up hurting him later in the movie. Through the whole movie he's trying to hook up with Christina (The Girl Next Door). With them telling each other their "dark secrets", which one of them has been lying.
My Thoughts: Here we have a nice little Canadian Dramatic Comedy. As you people know I'm a Stoner, so I wanted to check it out since I knew it was going to have weed in it. I was surprisingly surprise with how they took this movie a different way rather than the usually "Weed Genre". Yeah, it was a little cheesey in some parts, which is expected with a Weed Love Story. The acting wasn't top notched, and I mean by some of the supporting characters. The Main characters I thought were believeable and good. I wasn't too surprised by the ending only cause I kind of read what was going to happen which I shouldn't have done, but if I didn't read it I would have been surprised with it. But doesn't mean I liked the ending, thought they could have done it different, I know I would have. Only cause it wasn't really believeable with Quinn and Christina situation, but I guess it kinda worked since Christina was just a side plot from what we should be really focusing on. But without giving anything away, I did like the final scene which made up for it, and that was the way should have ended, cause I know thats what I would have done :D.
OVERALL: Like I said before I like how they took a different take on the Weed Genre, it was something different. Has plenty of weed in it for all the weed heads (like myself). The whole love story was whatever, even though she was pretty hot (Christina). The ending isn't too predictable. I would probably give this movie a 6.5/10 - 7/10. Not exactly sure what to give it since the ending is a little iffy. But The Final Scene is good!
