Hey everyone- I have been going through all my old vhs tapes from my old tape-trading days in the 80's-90's and found Nightmare (a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain)---has anyone out there heard of or seen this sick fucker? I THINK this was done 'round '80 or maybe as late as '82, it's directed by Romano Scavolini (the only film I've heard of by him) and when released, it was in one of those big-ass oversized vhs boxes y'know?
Anyways, if you are into underground horror or just plain sick-ass gore, you HAVE to get ahold of this one. I have to admit, between the killings is a LOT of bad acting/dialogue, esp. between these two police detectives who are on the killers tail- but when the killings are on- holy SHIT, dudes!! I can't believe the fucking GORE! The gore is ever bit as close up and well-done as anything by Fulci, and the sound effects/editing are unnerving as hell. There is 2 standout scenes:
1. A mini-pickaxe attack on a woman that is just brutal- at least 30 screen seconds of close-up maiming- incredible effects as the killer repeatedly hacks holes in her bare back with blood just gurgling out the holes in slo-mo--Oh Yeah! I'm gettin an erection!:giggle:
2. The end scene (don't worry, this is not the type of movie you can spoil!) where the killer is shown as a child and what caused him to become a killer- a fucking outrageous scene that is at least 3 minutes long- the kid comes in, sees dear Mom and Dad indulging in some fuckin' S & M- gets shocked, goes out to the woodpile, gets an axe, comes back, and just fuckin massacres 'em, on screen. I've never seen a movie where a KID actor fuckin axes his parents apart in graphic detail- and graphic it is bros.

See it if you haven't y'all, I promise you'll be talkin' about it once you do.
Again, long-ass post...I'm a busy plumber and end up having about 1-2 hrs a week on my cpu. And as usual, I have:smoking4: before posting.

Oh- Tom Savini is credited in the opening credits as make-up fx dude on the above-mentioned film- but you won't find it listed on his filmography.

Have it, but haven't watched it yet.

Pretty much all the people I've heard talk about it, is on par with what you said.

I was extremely disappointed by the flick, the gore is ok but the problem with it is that 90% of the gore is just the same scene replayed at various parts throughout the film in flashbacks of the same event. The acting and plot are dreadful, but Im with you on the gore, good but just not enough for my taste

It's a gory movie, not the worst but gory enough.. The Matricide/Patricide was brilliantly done, the kid was very creepy.. so much blood!!. The characters in this film were very annoying though, bad acting. I was bored by the movie actually.. 5/10.

i actually really love the movie the gore goes well with the sleaze in it, and the killer wandering the gritty prostitute streets gives it a nice touch. wish code red dvd would release it like they were supposed to.

I remember liking it. Saw it the first time before I knew who Fulci was, but it was still decent. Need to rewatch it for an accurate opinion.
