is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds."
Really? god people are just dumb as hell. For someone to stand up and say that they have the right to take these privliges that everyone is entitled to, and smile about it and say its what god wants.....Have they really every met god? besides in their dreams. Religion is just bad. I have always thought this and always will. Religion is part of the counterculter which seeks to always be right......and never look like a cult.

"Now we're gonna cut loose. Footloose. Kick off your sunday shoes."

Ha ha. That's exactly what came to mind when I first read it too!

Honestly though, I would just go ahead and go to the damn prom. Because honestly, I don't care what kind of shit this school tries to pull, what this kid does after school hours is HIS business. I dont give a rats ass if he signed a statement. This doesn't sound like a school to me...it sounds like a prison.

And the alcohol and sex at the prom...how will they know he is participating in that sort of thing? It's not like he' gonna pop open a 40 and screw his girlfriend right there at the prom. Even kids are smart enough to go somewhere else for that.

And if the principle was that pushy about him not going, why the hell sign the slip for him to go?!

What the hell. I can tell you right now, I know a lot of people in my town that went to a catholic school (my brother included) and they were worse behaved than us public school kids (getting pregnant, doing drugs...). Want to know why? Because the more you say these kids can't do, the more they want to do them just to spite you.

That's my 2 cents.

How awesome would it be is someone tips the DJ at the Prom to play this song?

The handbook for the 84-student Christian school says rock music "is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds." I see that Otep also hit on this.

Rebellion against what? At this point we're just getting more of the same idiotic drivel that our parents and their parents got. Our kids are only dumb enough to fall for it, too.

That is not a counterculture. That is our culture. "The guy on mtv said to get intoxicated and screw. I didn't know any better!"

Prom isn't exactly where you go to hear a whole lot of Marilyn Manson either. They want not-so-cleverly disguised songs about getting laid. And at this point, I wish these people would come out and speak the truth. "The music played at most proms will contain poorly disguised lyrics which preach acceptance of fornication. We have an issue with that."

Double-speak from churches promotes rebellion as well.

I was listening to talk radio on the way to work the other day and the topic of discussion was that A recent study showed a steep decline in the number of younger Americans (Generations X and Y) that claim to be a part of an organized religion.

Of course, the conservative host of the talk show had the blame for this decline pointed at everything except the religions itself... heh! I think this story is a prime example of why younger Americans are looking at the strict doctrines and dogma of churches and just saying "Oh fuck this shit!"

And not only are these kids not going to be going to church... they're not going to be teaching their kids to go to church either.

Personally, I'm glad to see it... I think organized religion is a millstone around the neck of humanity.

I would like to see the agreement the student and his parents signed at the start of school that waved all thie rights to decide their own actions outside of school grounds. Always been interested in creative writing in contracts and other legal documents.

"Frost, a senior at Heritage Christian School in northwest Ohio, agreed to the school's rules when he signed a statement of cooperation at the beginning of the year, principal Tim England said."
----------------------

Unless all your other choices in the area were awful, not sure why you'd go to a fundamentalist religious school if you didn't agree with the tenets/policies, etc.

My experience is that religious schools aren't cheap; it's a little difficult to believe this was the family's only option....

I'm a christian myself, and I believe in God. But this? This is just fuckin ridiculous. I hate old religious people who make up retarded rules like that. I would have gone to the prom, and then I would have went on TV and said how idiotic and stupid these people that suspended him were. Assholes. I said christian, because thats what I'm labeled. But my faith is between me and God, not some old idiotic people sitting around judging me and telling me I'm going to hell because I WENT TO A PROM. Organized religion does piss me off royally. Its more of a spiritual thing for me. Its why I don't go to church. People. Are. Idiots.
