Workin on complete redesign of UHM

Only a few people have actually seen the work in progress, but a couple days ago I've begun work on a complete redesign of UHM. Currently the site is all PHP and I'm using individual scripts for things like comments and rating.

With the new site I hope to bring everything together in a CMS format, where everything is linked. I.E. a single login for the user to be able to edit their profile, post comments, rate flicks, post on the board, etc..

Since this is a complete redesign it will likely take a while. I think it took me a few weeks to actually put the first design and content of UHM together, so I'd imagine this will probably take longer. Because of this, updates on the regular site will continue, but be posted slightly slower than usual.

Once I've put together a more concrete design I may possibly post the link here for users to comment on the new look and possibly post suggestions. :thumbup3:

Things are moving along well. I've only been using this new format for a few days and I'm really starting to get a hang of things. So far I've set up a rating system for a few reviews I have up.

I'm still trying to work out the color scheme and overall look of review and movie pages. I'm also looking to change user profile and comments to be more appealing.

Still messing with the design, so the colors will likely go through more changes, but the zombie head will probably remain up top.

I'm going to try to avoid that. Right now people who visit the test page are free to sign up and rate/comment on some of what I have up, but their accounts may be deleted in the future. I'm only allowing it now to test out some of the content and make sure everything's working.

There are a couple ways to incorporate this board into the new site, but it may require a lot of script modifications. I will be working on that in the final installment of the new site. Currently I'm still tweaking the design and familiarizing myself with some of the features available and ones I can add.

I decided to spend the rest of the night trying to figure out how to integrate the UHM board into the new site, which means you'd have one account for the site and board.

I only found one mod that lets me do it, but so far it has given me issues. As of right now the integration is put on hold until I wait for this mod to hopefully get patched.

The new site does have an option for a message board (decent one too), but since I've already paid for this message board until next April, there's no way I'd waste my money for a inferior message board, just so members can have a single login. Plus I'd hate to have everyone re-register again.

Conclusion --

Unless I can get this one mod working, we may end up having two separate accounts -- site and board. The site account would grant access to commenting on reviews and movie pages, as well as rate flicks, and we all know what the board offers.

In the end that may be the best solution anyway, since there are actually a lot of regular commenters on the site itself that have never visited the board, so UHM would essentially have two communities -- one for the readers of the site and us frequenters of the board.
