This will probably get moved to the DVD/Blu-ray section but I thought I would post this for all to see. Im not a big on rentals but I went to my local Blockbuster this past weekend and to stay in competion with REDBOX, Blockbuster now have $2.00 rentals on Blu-Ray and DVD's for a one day rental with an extra dollar per day after OR you can rent the move for $5.00 and keep it for a week. Thats a pretty good deal on Blu-rays esp. if your planning to watch it that same day or night, 2 bucks is a deal. Rented Benjamin Button and The Wrestler on Blu-ray for $4.00. Also picked up used Tropic Thunder and Forgetting Sara Marshall on Blu-ray for 25 total.

Another sign that the economy is in bad shape. I cant remember the last time I've rented anything, but that's because nothing of any interest to me has come out for some time. Blockbuster is one of 2 video stores left still operating in my area; all the others have slowly closed up shop.

Blockbuster isn't in good shape. They got a 1 year extension on a loan and already there are rumors they aren't going to be able to pay it back, leading into a possible bankruptcy claim.

Earlier in the year a Blockbuster rumor of Bankruptcy hit the airwaves and their stocks slid I think it was 78% and hit a dismal 2 cents a share.

Things aren't looking good at all for Blockbuster with Netflix growing, just 19% in profits just the first quarter this year, and Redbox offering $1 (for regular and blu-ray) rentals at local Wal-marts, Walgreens, McDonald's, and other high traffic areas.

Blockbuster's days of high rental prices, terrible selection, and running local mom and pop rental shops into the ground may be over unless they can pull something out of their ass.

Blockbuster is done. I used to work for them for quite some time and it seems their unethical business practices have finally come full circle. They not only abused their customers but their employees as well. Now, all of that combined with their poor business decisions has landed them in a situation they will not be able to come back from. I wouldn't be surprised to see them liquidating a good deal of their low volume stores by the end of the year.

Blockbuster took out all the local movie rental places in the DC area. Your only other choice is Netflix. The only local stores rent Bollywood movies.

Truer words have never been spoken. The only reason I support my blockbuster is cuz it's the only immediate video store in this shitty city of mine. Makes me long for the Blockbuster of old, or the place known as Video Circus where I used to live. And that place is powerful by the way; it managed to run a Movie Gallery into the ground just up the road.

Actually Movie Gallery has problems of it's own. They never should have merged with Hollywood Video knowing about the huge debt that went along with it. I can see more store closings for the lower volume stores.
