View Full Version : UHM 2.0 OPEN BETA!!!!

The new site is now under open beta, where users who've not yet seen the site can now view it and offer their comments and suggestions. This is a great opportunity to become a part of UHM history if I use one of your recommendations. Also, this gives members an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new site, so things won't be too weird when the change finally happens. Feel free to register and post comments.

THINGS TO KNOW:

If you don't know what something is or meant to do (I.E. watched movies), feel free to ask me.

The details and options in the member profiles are at a bare minimum at the moment, but I plan to add more features to make them more fun and interesting.

Keep in mind that a majority of the links on the nav-menu link back to this site, as I'm just using them as an example for the time being.

There are still a lot of minor tweaks, and small cosmetic changes that will have to be done before the site is officially released, but I wanted to have open beta up early enough to give me time to fix any errors or add something.

The "Similar Movies" option will be more defined when the site is public, so you may ignore the movies it's recommending to you at the moment, as it's just an example.

FAQ:

Will we have to re-register?

The message board and new site will have their own accounts, so the board will be untouched. You would only need to register to the new site, if you want to use some of the features and post comments.

When will the new site be up?

Hoping to have it available by UHM's 10th anniversary on June 24th, but I may need to delay it, depending on how much I can have done by then. So far I'm slightly behind schedule :whew:

Why the change?

Having UHM under CMS (Content Management System) is something I've wanted to do for years, and now I've finally found a way to do it. By having UHM under CMS, it opens many new opportunities for the site and makes things easier for me.

I'm quite certain that the site won't be finished in time for the 10th anniversary, which is in a little over a week. I don't wanna release the new site until most, if not, all of the movies are in the database, which will take quite some time :whew:

Well I just finished adding H2 to the new database and it took forever cuz of all the content it has:

http://upcominghorrormovies.com/test/movie/halloween-2

The category links and the links leading to people's names, etc.. on that page won't work until the site becomes official. Also the images under Gallery will only be seen when the site moves.

I will be adding the most popular films first before adding other smaller films, so by the time the site is officially open, people will have info on the newest and most popular flicks and likely not gripe about the smaller ones, which I will add over time.

FrighT MasteR
06-16-2009, 06:43 AM
I realized earlier that movies can't be voted on unless they're in review form. If I add a voting feature for a movie as well as for the review, a single movie will end up with two different ratings, because they're on separate pages.

This would prove troublesome if a movie is already released and I have no review for it. Then how will users vote on the movie if they've seen it?

I've decided that the simplest solution would be to create a review page for a movie regardless of whether a UHM staffer has reviewed it or not. If there is no review there will be text saying that the review has not been written yet, but users can rate and review the film themselves.

It will look something like this: http://upcominghorrormovies.com/test/review/fd4-review

So, users are now only able to add their rating on a particular film when they comment, and each comment can be treated like a user review, if they chose to type a review in their comment. :thumbup3:
