this is from Wikipedia
Subconscious Cruelty does not consist of a single plot or timeline; rather, it is a series of vignettes that explore the filmmakers' visions. The visuals of the film frequently deal with taboo subjects, and much of the film is considered to be disturbing to the audience. As the film progresses, the viewer encounters such subject matter as masturbation, menstruation, and cannibalism, as well as frequent depictions of bodily fluids of every kind. Hussain's vision for the film was to present an unforgettable visual and sonic experience, and to challenge popular ideals of film.

Fully concur. I do have MANY films on my XHDs, but I'm buying what I enjoy, little by little.

I usually only download older movies or non-popular films. That way I won't get caught.

I usually always buy a film if I like it though.

Blind buys are awesome. Have made some amazing finds that way. I actually prefer it to blind downloads.

bitch: Yeah I know what you mean, downloading first is often a very good way to go. However, don't tell Ron you downloaded his film :D I've helped him get rid of his films on sites.

yeah i did notice all the comments on CG and i get where hes coming from, but like i said i wouldn't have bought it if i hadn't of watched it first! to me downloading is like renting but you can find cooler stuff

Metapher

Renting except you don't pay.
There are alot of great films I wouldn't have owned if it wasn't for downloading, but nowadays I buy most films I wanna see. If I can't find them or if I'm entirely out of money to spend on films, then I might download and get it as soon as I can.

I can throw you the names of real pieces of shit I own through blind buys, but it's time to bed myself. It'd be a different story if the sort of films we seek and enjoy were played at local theaters far and wide, but 'tis not the case : x

Several Years ago, Geek Maggot Bingo sounded promising... I fondled Bloodfreak in my hands for a while before deciding on GMB. Now BloodFreak has risen up to damn near 60 dollars in price(new - $45, used). I just want to avoid situations like that in the future.

It's true that I've been pretty satisfied with a few BBs, but the risk isn't one I can take anymore.

But that's what makes us individuals. I respect that you can do that, FB.

Well that was a movie that came out of Hollywood, so that's your problem right there.

I feel indifferent about the whole thing. I've been watching obscure/underground movies for years, where the only way you could get them was from buying VHS bootlegs. So pretty much my early viewing experiences were blind buys, which includes Subconscious Cruelty (which took me a year to track down a copy).

I download as well, especially because I have tight budget because of school. I still buy movies and still do blind buys as well, The Gateway Meat was a blind buy for me. I hadn't seen any of Ron's earlier work, but I took shot on it when he was taking pre-orders and it has become a favorite movie of mine.

Worst blind buy goes to that fucking Strawberry Estates movie.

Metapher
07-07-2009, 06:01 AM
TrashHouse was a pretty bad blind buy for me, so was The Undertow, but I found plenty of cool stuff through blind buying. Like Cinéma Abattoir, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, Beyond The Limits, Bio-Zombie, Crypt Of Terror (Cemetery of Terror / Grave Robbers), etc.

ReptilianPig

Crypt Of Terror (Cemetery of Terror / Grave Robbers)

Cementerio del Terror Y Ladrones de Tumbas FTW! Those were awesome cheesefests, easily overlooked - the best double feature out of the whole Mexican CoT lot. I don't think I've ever seen any other slasher with zombies...

OK, so I still Blind Buy to this day. Singapore Sling, for instance. It wasn't available for DL and being the arthouse freak that I am - had to see it. It was probably FilmBiz that ultimately leaked word out to me through WoodenHeart so : tips hats:

I only blind buy if I cannot screen the bitch, it's generally cheap(my tastes often times include the pricier types), or it is part of a special die-rector's filmography.

good luck persuading people not to download things, that is the personification of the phrase "you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube". Being a pirate is way too easy and falling into the mindset of "this one little download won't hurt anyone" is even easier.

and i always do if i liked it

I download myself, all I'm trying to do is to get underground fans to buy more films than they do, because it's a "genre" that needs more help than mainstream. And no, I'm not gonna debate about that.

ReptilianPig
07-09-2009, 05:58 PM
There's nothing to debate about. Some people are cheap asses and some people, such as myself, buy the movies they enjoy. I really don't want to pay for a bad experience, only to repeat it - not if I can help it.

For instance, I just bought Bare Behind Bars from the 'zon for 30 bucks. Yeah, I liked it that much to stretch the dollar out. I've a DVDAF list I should put into my sig.

If you'd like to see forgotten about films like Dr Caligari, Hausu, or Terrorvision(the list goes on and on) - or even a foreign film that never had subtitles(fans/ users often times make subtitles on the PT we speak of), most likely you'll hafta resort to becoming a pirate arrrr.

i download a lot of films but i buy i shitload aswel in the last month ive spent anout £350 on films all of which i wouldn't of if i hadn't of downloaded them and watched them first.

the only blind buy ive done is with the 3 cinema abattoir films and its only because metapher has given them really good reviews and he knows his shit

I wasn't looking for a debate metapher, that would be an exercise in futility. You made a point and then so did I. Someone recommended a movie and it was you who made this a discussion about downloading so stop acting like anyone is challenging you.

Metapher

I never acted like someone challenged me, I just said the last part of that post so that no 100% anti-downloader would come to me and say that mainstream needs the money just as much as underground does. Calm down, take a chill pill and get out :mhehe:

I wouldn't call the movie very disturbing, it's more an artistic film with some disturbing elements. Sure there are fucked up things. Never watch movies to get disturbed, it's not even fun to try anymore.

Exactly.

The movie is quite excellent regardless of what you think of it, simply because it's more than just a cheap shock film, it actually has a purpose and meaning.

I can't imagine a bigger waste of time than watching movies simply to be disturbed by them. If all you're looking for is cheap shock, then you're probably best just watching fetish movies and execution footage.

I thought the movie was good and had a purpose, etc etc, but I don't know, it didn't appeal to me.

I don't watch films just to try to be disturbed by them, it's just every film I've watched, where people say it's so bad...I don't think it's bad at all.

I have to download August Underground Mordum as well.
