Disney has not been a company I've given a damn about since the 90s when they started to phase out animation in favor of all the shit they force out today.

It will only get worse if they throw their trendy flavor of the era teen idols into Marvel movies.

I think we will get more movies in the style and quality of the Fantastic Four movies now that Disney bought the rights to 5000 Marvel characters. :straightface2:

what scares me is what'd going to happen with the more "adult" marvel characters Punisher, Marvel Zombies, etc...kiss those decent comics goodbye

Why the hell would Marvel make this call anyway?

With the kind of profit they surely make it strikes me as odd that they would need a buyer.

I'm thinking the next movie will be another Fantastic Four, staring the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus

The reason they bought marvel is because they want the male teen demographic. You won't see Miley and Jonas brothers, they've got the girlie tween market covered. Plus Marvel Shareholders still have to approve of this decision and if it does go down it's going to take a few years.

Marvel shouldn't be selling to Disney, they practically print money between their movies and comics. Disney owns enough movie studios and TV networks now they gotta dip their toes into comic books? It just stinks.

Paramount Pipes in About Current Marvel Movies Under Disney

The $4 billion deal won't affect Paramount's distribution arrangement for five upcoming films, the studio announced, including the highly anticipated Iron Man 2 and Thor. "Paramount Pictures has enjoyed a productive and fruitful relationship with Marvel Studios from the start of our distribution agreement in 2005," the statement began. "So much so, we announced a five-picture slate distribution deal last year which includes worldwide distribution rights for upcoming films: Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, Avengers, and Iron Man 3. This distribution deal will be unaffected by today's transaction. We look forward to continuing to work with Marvel and, with today's announcement, to working with Disney to replicate the incredible success of Iron Man on all our future collaborative projects."

I'm not so sure there's a lot to be worried about... Yes, Disney likes to maintain a "family" oriented image, but in reality, the Disney corperation is a shrewd money hungry mother-fuckering beast. They want Marvel, because it is a money-making machine and I sincerely doubt that Disney is gonna fuck with a formula that is working.

Chances are, you won't even notice a change in the Marvel product when Disney takes over... they may not even put their name anywhere on a Marvel Comic or on the Marvel Movies.

Disney owns all kind of shit in the entertainment industry, and a lot of it has no mention of the Disney label, nor do all of the entities that Disney owns reflect the "Family Image" aspect of Disney. They are simply revenue sources for the Mouse.

Hell, I wouldn't be suprised to find out Disney covertly owns some of the biggest porno studios in the US....

So, until a high-ranking spokesman for Disney comes out and makes a statement of "We are going to change Marvel Comics and make it into Wholesome Family Entertainment!!" I'm not gonna be too concerned...

I don't want people worried about maintaining a squeaky clean image greenlighting (or not) comic book movies or having any say in future scripts.

The Weinsteins were bought out by disney, Miramax is still a part of Disney. There's now the Weinstein Co. which is going broke.

Hmm... Point taken Choptop but Disney took the reigns and drove Miramax into the ground, even talking about closing shop altogether http://www.businessinsider.com/the-future-of-miramax-more-crowd-pleasing-fare-2009-5

people hear Disney and freak out. They think Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are gonna be all over the comics now and thats just retarded. The comics won't change, and I doubt the movies will change much either. Disney has their hands in A LOT of stuff. Half of it you don't even know about. DC is better anyway.

no my friend, I'm sorry to say you will not. And I said earlier the movies won't change either. But I think the impact will be bigger on the movies than it ever would in the comics. They may shy away from the thought of makine Thor for $150 million. And that may not be a bad idea. I wouldn't mind seeing Thor on the big screen, but that would be a risk. Course then again Ironman was a risk and it paid off. People knew who Ironman was yeah, but outside of the comic book geek world he wasn't that big. Thors got the same reputation as far as I'm concerned. So who knows.

Most likely, there will be alot more PG movies now over PG-13.

I don't think things will change too much, so long as the Marvel IP's keep making money. When the cash stops flowing, that's when huge shakeups occur.

Does anyone else think it's kinda poetic since WB, home of Bugs, Daffy, and Porky, owns DC?

Does anyone else think it's kinda poetic since WB, home of Bugs, Daffy, and Porky, owns DC?I bought the 1989 Batman VHS tape when it came out. Before the movie is a commercial for the "Warner Brothers Store" -- hosted by Bugs and Daffy.

Then a Diet Coke commercial with Alfred preparing a nice cold soda as the Batmobile pulls into Wayne Manor. DC doesn't own Coca-Cola, but that's still pretty damned funny.

Please... why because they have been ripping of every marvel story and doing it themselves... take away Green lantern and dc is a joke right now. They're best comics are released under a different name (vertigo) and their main branch is pretty bad. Every main storyline in the past 2-3 years was done by marvel the year earlier, witht he exception of sinesto corps and blackest night.

dc's main writer is geoff johns and as great as it he is, he is it.

I live in Orlando smack dab in the middle of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure. When this story broke here alot of people were pissed because at Universal Islands of Adventure they have a section of the park that's nothing but Marvel Comic character themed. Word is that now that Disney owns the rights they have to do away with that portion of the park and replace it with something else. In addition to that Disney is suppossied to open a new park in the next couple of years thats going to be called Heroes and Villians which is going to rival Islands of Adventure and Universal as a whole. It sucks because I like Universal more than I like "kiddy" Disney and its like there trying to have a monopoly even in the theme park area. The only good thing about this is that Disney has to pay Universal to remove the Marvel stuff.
