View Full Version : Is Halloween Dead or Alive in Your Area?

Here in Queens, NYC Halloween used to be great. Years ago there were tons of kids in the streets all made up ringing bells for candy and some of course throwing eggs or spraying shaving cream on everything in site. House were decorated with all kinds of pictures of monsters, some would actually make lifelike ones and hang or post them up in front of their yards. NOT anymore.
People around here seemed to have lost interest in Halloween. Like it doesn't exist.
Christmas is different. We light up like the sun in December.
How is it by you?

Dead. Past few years no kids come to the house.
But about 10 yrs ago me and my dad got all dressed up and sat on the porch like we were decorations holding the candy bowls. Kids got halfway up the drive and one of us would turn our heads to look at them. While they fought over continuing onward and looking at us the other would turn head to look at them.
For some reason we got to keep a lot of the candy for ourselves that year.

Same here, its mostly dead. It seems as years past, trick or treaters are getting older too, no young halloweeners.

Too many maniacs out there. I'm sure child abduction is on the minds of many parents.
It's still alive over here, I've dressed as my Werewolf and went to two streets and there were enough trick-or-treaters, I hope it doesn't die off...and we're getting some awesome previews of Haunted Attractions going around which I haven't seen for a while except for the Halloween Haunt at Kings Island, you guys seen their latest trailer? It looks amazing.
I'm doing my Grizzler short for Halloween.

Nobody lets their kids trick or treat in my area, They mostly go to the the mall for a trick or treat event or go to haunted houses. I dunno can't be anymore dangerous when I was a kid, I was 9 and walking around my neighborhood by myself all the time, nevermind Hallween. But Kidz iz beetchez these days :smokin2:
"trick-or-treating" itself iz pretty much dead in my area. a lot of people still decorate their houses, hell one house builds a "haunted maze" on their front lawn. but ya, as as trick or treating goes RIP

remember when your parents had to look through you Halloween candy cuz they thought people wuz putting razorblades and LSD in the shit? Never found one but I think that's when shit started to change the attitude to letting your kids run loose on the 31rst around here.

Dead. We bought a good amount of candy and maybe went through almost half of one bag to trick or treaters.

Its been deemed too dangerous in a lot of areas for various reasons (from unhealthy candy to Christian logic).
In my area, there just aren't as many kids as there used to be. The decorations are still here, but the kids aren't.

It's been dying out more and more every year, but I still get a handful of Trick or Treaters every time. Hardly anyone even puts out a frickin' jack-o-lantern anymore though...

In my area you put out a jackolantern and it gets smashed. You put out decorations and they disappear. Now i just sit at home and watch horror marathons.

There's plenty of trick and treaters around here. They just never come to my place since its on a back road. I pretty much either just go to a party or watch a lot of horror movies on halloween.

In my town overall its dead...Most kids here don't even bother to dress up.
They just knock the door expecting candy. And, of course the older kids go around egging.
But in the town that is next to here halloween is a pretty big deal so I usually just spend the day/night there.

At my parents place they still get a few trickortreaters. Usually older kids that don't dress up, just as Jewls stated. Fucking lazy bastards - at least throw a damned mask on.

Vegas has had a holiday transition. Used to be a lot of stuff when I was younger but we've def. began focusing on it as just an adults holiday here. Alcohol and skankiness reign supreme. I enjoy it.

Here, (in the bible belt) it is not as big as it used to be when I was a kid. There are a few random Halloween functions at different places. Mostly, there are a lot of "counter"-events at churches.
We still make it big for kids when they come by our house on Halloween night (if they are allowed to trick-or-treat on the holiday.) We do our whole setup and try to make it a little different and add to it each year, especially in a time where fewer and fewer people in this area even hand out candy.

Trick or Treating wise it's kind of a mixed bag but as far as Halloween parties goes, its huge. I live in New Orleans and if you go down to Frenchmen Street, it's more packed on Halloween than Buourbon Street is for Mardi Gras.

Halloween is dead in my neighborhood as well. But damn, I remember when I was younger, there were tons of trick-o-treaters but now there's jus a few. My house was always the best decorated in my neighboorhood, had a graveyard theme. But now, what the point. :leave:

Halloween in the UK is rubbish. Not many trick or treaters come round and the ones that do are hardly dressed up at all. We carve pumpkins and put them outside but decoration is basically non existant here. Only one house down my road used to decorate and they have moved now. Also if we do put stuff out it usually gets stolen or trashed.
Me and the BF going to a theme park this year as they put on a Halloween show with haunted maze and mansion and fireworks. Also you can go on the rides in the dark. Halloween seems a lot more fun in the USA.

Noticed Halloween decorations up in some of the houses by me. Maybe there's hope for my block.
I have a life size witch (green and black with black and orange stripped boots) on a broomstick on my porch. People love it.

Not much as far as decorations go, but trick-or-treating is still going on strong.

We haven't decorated the outside yet (in fear of things getting destroyed or stolen) but we've started on the inside. It's not much yet, but I do have my tablescape set and some hollow "skull-o-lanterns" set out on my coffee table.

ALIVE!
My one neighbor does a haunted house in their front yard and even the local church has all of their members come to the parking lot and hand out candy from their trunk. I love this time of year...

Sadly, it's in its coffin where I am. Where I lived before (for seven years, mind you) we only got about twenty trick or treaters each year. Most adults dress up and go to parties, but there's really not much for the kids anymore :shrugs:, unless you want to knock on some religious nut's door and get a sourpuss look from them.:dsp:

Its so so here in my town. The kids seem fewer in numbers that trick or treat.
I think these days they have the kids involved with halloween parties at a church or something.

It's been a big deal here the last two years.
The only letdown last year was a complete lack of last-minute see-through witch costumes typically worn by the local household matriarchs.

it's really active where i live, plus being in a college town, there's plenty of older trick or treaters as well

Not much appreciation for Halloween where I am. People gotta be all hard and act like they're too good to be scared. Assholes. Other people don't seem to be very festive until the day before.
