I've had my old small iriver clix mp3 player for a few years now and I think it's time for an upgrade. It seems that most of the brands that I used to like, I.E. Archos, iriver, Creative, etc.. have all kind of developed some mediocre players as-of-late and are being shadowed by bigger brands like Microsoft's Zune and the Apple's Ipod.
I personally hate Ipod, especially because you have to use itunes to sync and convert media into the device. I know there are other programs out there that will do the same without having to go through itunes, but I still don't really like it.
I'm somewhat interested in the Zune, especially the new Zune HD that came out recently. Does anyone have a Zune player and can tell me their thoughts on it?
Get an ipod you n00b :2far:

Had an Ipod Nano and Itouch and really liked them both. Never had a problem using itunes. I'm thinking of getting a 2nd gen. shuffle soon.
Archos and Creative did make impressive and better than Ipod MP3s a few years ago and I would've loved to have one, but I really haven't come across any newer models with the same oomph the older models had.

So far the Sony X-series Walkman and Zune HD are the only two players that are really good. However, the Sony one is a bit expensive, so I may just go with the Zune unless I can find an ipod that really blows my socks off and has me forgetting all about itunes :bored:

I've got a 4BG Sony Walkman, it's really good actually, got it for a bargain price of nearly fuck all.
I have an ipod classic 160 gig and have had it going on 3 yrs and have only used 37.19 gigs. thats including music and about 10 movies and other tv show seasons. Its a beast and one of the best gadgets i own.

I got a 4GB Sony. A lot less expensive then an ipod and suits my needs just fine. I don't use it for video so 4 gigs is more than enough space for all my music. There is also an 8GB version.

personally i have a 16 gb ipod nano and enjoy it a bunch. I've only had a bit of hands on time with zunes but overall i liked em from the time i got to play with it. It's not a bad piece of hardware, some of the flak it gets is simply because it's the other mp3 player compared to apple's gigantic market share. Haven't tried a zune hd but the older models seemed more then capable, i'd give it a more in depth look at a store personally fright.

Yeah, I hate that too. It makes doing anything else outside of Ipod stuff a pain in the ass.
Personally though, I'm using an Ipod myself. The reason why I like it is because of how it works with my car stereo compared to other MP3 players. Also, I got it for a gift from my parents...so I didn't really pay anything for it.
I've heard a lot of great things about the Zune though, so I'd look into that if I were you.
Oh yeah, another thing I don't like about ITunes is that it wants me to download updates for it like every week it seems. Retarded.

I can't stand any of Apple's software. I refuse to have an Ipod or Iphone due to the requirement that Quicktime goes on one of my computers. :die:
I have a Sanza Fuze and love it. It also comes in 4 or 8 gig models, but has a slot for MicroSD cards. Right now I think $28 will buy an 8 gig MicroSD card at Wal-Mart, and you can almost certainly find cheaper at Amazon. Just watch out for people selling fakes.
The Fuze will also let you use Windows Media Player to keep everything synched up, or just drag and drop through Windows explorer. I've bought mp3s from Amazon, Emusic and Napster, plus ripped cds in Windows Media Player, Audiograbber or Mediacoder, and they all play without a problem.
They also have custom software that you can download for free. This is the biggest downer - that software is pretty much the only surefire way to convert videos. And you're looking at ~1GB for a standard length movie. The video quality is a bit overkill.
It's not a perfect device, but for the price and MicroSD slot, it's an amazing little gadget.

After doing extensive research, I've finally decided to get the Zune HD along with a Sync Dock for the device. I will report back after I receive and test out the item, but I'm pretty hopeful that the results will be positive :thumbup3:
