Here's a link to site that will tell you pretty much anything you need to know about torrents.... I learned a lot from the site back when I was but a fledgling torrent user.

why the hell does it take a day or so to download a torrent on any torrent program for me? I mean seriously...
Lack of seeders or you just got a shitty arse internet connection.

Either your computer is a hunk of shit, your internet connection is shit or the health of the torrent you're trying to download is shit.

torrents are not as simple as other p2p download methods. With a torrent you pull tiny pieces of files from a bunch of different seeders and they do the same from you. So if there arent that many seeders it will take longer. Most torrents give download priority to seeders so if you leave some of your torrents open after downloading them it will make your other torrents go faster.
Also if you are using a wireless router you may have to setup port forwarding otherwise it will take a long ass time/not work at all.
I use Vuse as I was a big Azerus fan back in the day but I find it to be a memory hog. Though I rarely download stuff anymore.

Likely because you have a slow internet connection and haven't used port forwarding on you're bit torrent client.

strtfghtr pretty much summed it up. Also, limiting your upload rate helps make your download faster. I recommend 20kbs or 25kbs. You can limit the upload by right clicking the torrent within uTorrent then go to Bandwidth Allocation and Set Upload Limit.
