Been thinking of making the switch to the 3G motorola Droid from my old 1st gen iPhone.

It's basically a decision between the iPhone 3Gs and the new Droid.

I've been using the iphone for years and I've grown to like it more but it is time for an upgrade.

Has anyone used a phone that runs on Google's Android OS or maybe owns a Droid themselves? I've read the latest OS version is much better than previous ones.

I've got my G1 from tmobile and trust me HTC is fucking amazing. You'll never want to get another cell phone again. The Android Market is very addicted with the amount of apps. If I had the option to get the Droid I would, but I'm on Tmobile and even then I don't think I want to get another phone until my 2 year contract is up. It's so addicting.

do you have any experience with the iphone dm to maybe compare the two?

Unfortunately no. I've heard a lot about the iPhone. On how expensive it is, how much the apps cost, the battery life of the phone..ect.

All I know is that my tmobile plan is 87 dollars a month. I have the lowest amount of minutes (300) (because I have unlimited texting) and the rest is for the internet on the thing.

The internet is extremely fast though. I go to a web page and it comes up instantly and that's with my 3G off. The on screen keypad is very useful and the buttons are not too small. The phone is also built like a brick. It can put up with a lot of shit. I have been extra careful with not dropping it, but even minor scratches that get on a normal phone with time are absent on my phone. I do want a protective rubber case for it just in case, but it's been fine without it.

BTW this is all on my G1, but I expect the Morotola Droid to be similair, if not better, if it's in fact an upgrade.

how does the connection to your PC work? do you need a specific program that comes with the phone or do you just plug it in and windows sees a detachable drive?

Windows sees it as a detatchable drive, although I do not plug it up to my PC often. Any pictures I take I just email them to myself or put them on facebook directly from my phone.

For Sega Roms, I just put my SD card in my computer and put all my games on there.

I've been working with cellphones for the last three years, and though I haven't worked with the Motorola Droid, one thing I can tell you, that in my professional experience is, if it is made by Motorola, it's probably gonna fuck up.. A LOT.

I do more trouble-shooting on Motorola products than anything else... the more complex the Moto device, the more fucked up it is...

Granted, I'll admit, we've had the Moto Clique for about a month now and though it is an Android phone as well, I haven't had to troubleshoot one that I can recall as yet... so maybe finally Moto has finally got their shit together... dunno... :shrugs:

My family has really good luck with Motorola's. My brother dropped his RAZR in a bucket of morter and it still worked. My mom has had her RAZR for almost a year now and she still loves it.

so I just spent a good 20 mins with the Droid in my hands and I have to say I am very impressed. The phone certainly isnt as simplistic as an iPhone but the extra options and settings you can play with blow the iphone away. The physical keyboard is a little skruntched but the "touch screen" keyboard works as well as the iphones. Loaded UHM up on it and navigating was a snap.

On a second note, I went to a Best Buy Mobile center in a mall and I have to say it was without a doubt the best cell phone shopping experience I've ever had. The guys were really nice, I told em I was interested in a Droid and within 30 seconds I had an active one in my hands. They answered all my questions and knew a lot about the phone, and even told me what they thought about it. One guy said he personally preferred the iphone, even though he knew I was interested in the competition, it was very laid back and zero pressure. I find it a rarity (especially in the world of cell phones) to get honest opinions and no pressure information. They even told me Best Buy has a 60 day return plan so if I dont like the phone or I get poor coverage I can come back in and swap for another.

Needless to say I'm going to go back there this week and give it a shot.

I've heard awful things about the battery on the T-Mobile android phone, or else I may have already tried to get one.

It seems like it might be as much of a hardware problem, though. And I have yet to hear about the new phone either.

My Tmobile G1 battery only drains when I'm playing Sega, for obvious reasons. Other then that it's a really good battery. Even the nights where I forget to plug in my phone, it lasts a day and a half - two days.

I've been seeing more and more ad's for the HTC with droid OS on it and it look's to be a pretty good phone. I haven't heard anything negative about the new phone's that are running that OS on them.

got it and I'm loving it so far :D

I love that I can get things like emulators and tethering programs without having to "hack" the phone like you did on the iphone
