Having computer problems and I just got this thing a new harddrive last month, this is probably my 3rd computer in 5 years or so. I was thinking about getting a laptop. Wouldnt be a bad idea, especially with free wifi here, no internet payments. Any suggestions? New computer or laptop? Never had a laptop before

the only thing laptops are good for is for moving around alot. If your computer is going to be on the same desk for 95% of the time then get a desktop. They are more reliable, cheaper to fix, and cheaper in general for faster processing power.

What do you use it for?

If it's just interneting and some word processing, then I say just get yourself an inexpensive Dell or something similar. (that goes for desktops and laptops)

However if you like to play games or have some other specialized applications (like editing video, massive storage for something like a media server, or a badass multi media machine with bluray etc) Then you need to beef it up a bit.

So what do you want to do with this computer and what is your price range?

yeah i just use it for internet surfing and use microsoft word. Ive always used gateway and have it now, but it wouldnt matter to me going with something else. I just want something cheap you know, no special shit in there or anything

ok sweet, well the next question I have is you already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Do you want to keep all that stuff or do you want an entirely new setup?

Check these two out:

Monitor brand doesn't matter, so it'll work. Dell :nervouswreck:

I think Dells are pretty reliable and the best priced around...though I've only owned 1 Dell I'm pretty impressed with its durability and reliability

All my other computers are home assembled

Dell is aight if you wanna save money but still have a decent comp, but for a little extra $$ I'd go with HP :fapper:

Agreed about vista. I think stores are starting to weed out their vista systems now though, but you can never be too careful :whew:

Dell comp's are not built to last, get and HP if you get another PC. I' d say just get a MAc but you probably don't wanna pay that much.

Either way I'll never buy another Dell, HP has my coin.

Macs are pretty expensive; the cheapest I seen was like $1k :nervouswreck:

How are Dells "not built to last"?

Not that I have any undying love for them, but they are pretty much exactly like HPs...cheap ass cases and frames with over-manufactured parts.

The only real way I can see HPs being better are in their high end models, which far outshine Dell's Alienware line.

All the lowend models on both companies I see as one in the same.

My mother has had a dell for 5 years now. Everyone I know, who has a Dell, has had it forever. They are built to last, they're just uber slow.

You need to build your own computer if you really want future upgrade options. I built my computer 4 years ago and the only thing I have purchased for it is when I upgraded the motherboard, video card and RAM.

All the Dells i've had were problematic, not the story with HP's. HP makes a better product, if you're happy with Dell then good for you.

I had one Dell which lasted a while, but it sucked really bad. I buy a lot of HP products and owned an HP comp, which is why I like da brand better

I've owned two Dell's and two HP's over the years and it just seems to me like the HP's are built better.
