This looks like unbelievable fun!
Looks completely ridiculous :dislike: but fun :2thumbs:
Quite possibly one of the best pure popcorn flicks I have seen. With that said it is also the most absurd, unbelievable, and most chaotic movie I have ever sat and watched in a theater. The ridiculous nature of it's action is completely self-aware and frankly it doesn't give a shit if you roll your eyes or not...and I am very thankful it took this approach.
For a movie that has a two and a half hour runtime to never have any "down" time is exhausting but fun. The screening showing was packed and the audience was amped which added to the fun factor ten-fold. Who says a bunch of press reviewers can't have fun? This movie broke that boundary/rule within the first ten minutes!
In this world you can drive a car off a skyscraper and out of planes. You can also walk down a city street with a gatling gun destroying every building you possibly can. You can have an epic throwdown between a mountain of a man in Johnson and a sly, quick, and malicious man in Statham. Yet we also have a film that sends off Walker in a somber and classy way.
The story becomes only a means to string together the action and there are so many characters to follow in the end it feels as if some don't get their proper screen time. It will be up to each viewer if this is a problem or if the action makes up for it.
This is a movie that caters to going to the theater to just have a good time. If you are a fan of Johnson, Statham, Diesel, Walker, hell even Rousey and Rodriguez you will absolutely NOT be disappointed.
If you are someone who doesn't like films that depict action set-pieces that go for the wow factor over anything that can be realistic this isn't for you as 80% of this flick is the furthest thing from realistic...although doing so on purpose.
With as crazy as it sounds I wish the movie was a little longer just to maybe add some more screen time for a few of these characters. All in all, wow...what a movie! With the buzz around this flick I have a feeling the final opening weekend tally will be record breaking.
8.5/10
**On a final note I did not want to ruin how they take care of Walker, however I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit choked up over it. Very classy...very classy indeed. ...and I think my ears are still bleeding :whew:
:stare2:
$150 million opening weekend :stare::stare::stare::stare:
Can't say I'm surprised :whew:
A very fun movie. I really enjoyed it. The ending definitely had me choked up, and I'm not a sentimental person at all.
Some day I'll watch these movies.
You should watch the new one. It's quality entertainment. It also helps if you're a Jason Statham fan. I've never seen him this much over the top in a movie. If you expect a serious movie you're shit out of luck, but if you laugh at the stupidity of it you'll have a blast.
The new one had severe pacing issues, imo. The action scenes were far too long and silly. Plus, I'm over Tyrese being the stupid one of the bunch. I mean, holy shit, we get it.
I'd recommend not holding your breath for that one. Another sequel is almost a done deal and 2 more movies will follow if everything goes as planed.
Here's what I expect from the sequels.
Spoiler...Fast 8: Kurt Russel has ONE MORE job for Dom and his crew. Over the top and very much impossible stuff happens, GoT chick does some hacking while looking as hot as a PG13 movie will allow her to be. End credits...final scene: Luke Evans wakes up from his coma.
Fast 9: Luke Evans assembles a crew specially hired to push Dom and his crews shit in. Car chases, over the top, forbidden by every known law of physics action ensues. Hobbs turns evil/gets blackmailed for working for Evans. Cliffhanger ending, credits start rolling...we get one more scene. Super Saiyan 3 level Jason Statham is beating the life out of everyone in a 10 mile radius as Evans busts him out of jail.
Fast 10: Shaw brothers and their crew destroy EVERYTHING and EVERYONE on the entire fucking planet. Dom probably welcomes some fresh faces to "the family" in order to help him fight Shaw brothers. Car chases happen, Michael Bay level of pointless explosions happen, hot chicks everywhere, bitchin' new tunes for a soundtrack, shinny new cars get wrecked. Hobbs turns good again...and we have ourselves a hoe down between the Shaw brothers and Rock&Vin. Rock dies since Vin's character's is I swear, The Last Son of Krypton or something. Everyone else that's left alive at this point leaves this shit for good and does what O'Conner did in F7, leave everything for good.
I never was a fan of the series. I just couldn't get into it.
This was definitely one of the more entertaining action fantasies I've seen in a while :whew: It was pretty much as I expected it to be--dumb as sheet, but fun as hell 7/10 :2thumbs:
On another note, I wasn't sure what to expect from the Paul Walker sendoff, but they did it quite well. I don't think the franchise will take much of a hit with his loss. Honestly I never cared much for him as an actor; he was alright in the F&F franchise, but it's really Vin that powers the movies. From what I read he seemed like a decent guy in real life though. R.I.P.
F&F will survive without Walker, he wasn't THAT much crucial to the series. His role was basically "token white guy" . They can just put Lucas Black in his place and there, role successfully replaced.
P.s.
I rewatched Tokyo Drift a few weeks ago. It wasn't really all that bad. Lucas Black's accent needs to die and never appear on the big screen again but other than that. Pretty decent movie. I'd be down for more TD spin off movies when they run out of ideas for F&F sequels.
Walker's best movie is undoubtedly Running Scared :metalbang:. Still he was a great guy that did a lot for charities. RIP.
