I have to agree with Fright, yeah that scene was very much just to shock. Quite obviously so I thought. Take that scene out and it doesn't change the movie in the slightest, except you didn't see a baby getting fucked. I think a lot of people like Serbian Film especially much because it tries to shock, though. It's that rebellious kid coming out of their head, wanting to love a movie because it's "cool" when they push boundaries. That said, it's nothing wrong with liking a movie more for shock value, but you should be aware of it. Not attacking anyone and saying that's the case with Serbian Film and the people here. Even though I'm not a big fan it's still a very well made flick with a good soundtrack, cinemtography and all that jizz. In the end, a slick exploitation.
Oh wait, I forgot I shouldn't be here :leave:
I've had pretty much mixed feelings about this film. In some respects I think all the hype surrounding this was over done. Sure, it's shocking, and well shot, and the story is well written. I've heard all the analogies regarding what the film is actually all about. It's worth watching once for sure. Otherwise, there's better films out there, really.
I watched the uncut version of this today. A very disturbing film. I probably won't watch it again. It will probably remain in my head for a long time. I'm not going to rate it because the content crosses the line, however, it s a great piece of cinematic art. So I am torn and not sure what else to say... :wavecry:
The film is set out to do what the director indeed, to shock people and to bring forth hatred. But there is also a social commentary behind it in regards of the state of the Serbian government and how they use manipulation and power to force people into doing things they don't want to do. This is NOT a film for everyone and would watch this at your own risk.
I enjoyed the film for what was presented and event though there are a lot of things in this film that made me uncomfortable and unsettled me, it still did not deter away from my viewing. I will agree though that these are one of these films that I own and have been hesitant to watch again.
Just got done with this tonight
:whew:
I will write a review for it tomorrow or Friday in case anyone hasn't seen it.
This is going to be a cult classic one day..
I watched this by myself at home once and it made me feel unclean.
Like wow...I've seen things that i can not unsee that i wish I can unsee...

Those who are disturbed or shocked maybe do not appreciate the black comedy and satire in this movie. This may be the blackest/darkest comedy ever made, IMO.
I get that it has satire of some kind, it was very well-made, well-shot, well-cinematography, good music, very good acting. The subject matter really made me very uncomfortable and just...yeah...the movie succeeds at being exploitation for the sake of exploitation. The newborn scene and the kiddy-porn bits really turned me off. I love bloody and gory and disturbing movies and subject matter, but stuff like "pedophilia" really makes me cringe and never ever want to touch any of that with my bare hands nor my brain...
Even I have my limits...
You're entitled to your opinion but I disagree. This movie is actually trying to say something and isn't just about exploitation. Although it does have exploitation elements, yes. Besides, I think the exploitation genre is underrated at times. Sometimes it can go a long way in breaking down barriers/taboos to gain some unique insights into society.
As far as pedophilia is concerned, unfortunately that is a problem in society and I don't think the solution is to just keep quiet about and/or pretend it doesn't exist. I think it should be exposed for what it is.
:whew:
like mentioned above, it is brutal to some extent, but over all you won't be disappointed with the overall product of this.
That is for sure.
This is one of those movies that half way through you think why am i watching this but realise again that you havent switched it off. Martyrs was like that for me.
It messes with your brain chemistry and not in a good way.
Having said that I agree that it will probably become a cult classic and it does highlight some of the darker elements of society in a way that gets people talking. Strangely enough in a way that hostel should have but didnt.
