This was never meant to be a Cloverfield movie and i doubt JJ Abrahams Lincoln will do another in the series.
From what i understand this movie was presented to him as a stand alone movie. The executive producers and JJ loved the movie but understood how hard it is to break into today's theater market without name recognition (especially this year). So post-everything they decided to go back and film some extras to tie it into the Cloverfield series.Which is why ever potential reference to cloverfield is a single event that has no place in the story.
This is also why the movie came out of no where.
I saw it tonight. I thought it was good, but I don't see the tie-in with Cloverfield, except for the title, which is actually after the street name that John Goodman's character lived on. :shrugs:
RLM was right.
This movie should have ended about ten minutes before it did.
Spoiler...In a movie like this we didnt need to see the big bad aliens. We didnt need the Ripley makes alien go boom moment.
The ending would have been perfect had she said "you gotta be kidding me" on top of the truck. and then it ends. It would have been such a classic ending. Put some NIN as the screen goes black... done.
Enjoyed JG's performance. Story was pretty good. Pretty decent flick all around.
