this is how I always saw it going, the guys being in the flick, but handing the reigns over to a new group of Ghostbusters. Maybe their family members or something like that.

wow...hmm, could be interesting.
I would imagine the success of the VG would be a big factor, but I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't love to see another one. Especially if they aren't trying to veer towards a sleek, sexy, new ghost-fighting squad.
:hmmm:
Could be a massive comedy movie if all stated are involved. I'd see a GB movie in the theaters no matter what, but this approach is definitely interesting and could work well. If the video game does well you can get the financing won't be a problem from Sony.
I don't have high hopes for another sequel, but if it happens, I'll be there.
As much as I'd love to see a sequal, I don't think I could handle the thought of them handing over their titles. It's all about them.
That's awesome news. I was talking with a buddy of mine yesterday actually about this and we both agreed that the best thing to do get a new ghostbusters squad as long as the originals were in it to at least pass the torch I think people will be all for it. There isn't a funnier combo than Judd Apatow's misfit bunch. I can see Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Justin Long, and Romany Malco. If not Michael Cera then def. Paul Rudd.
Last time I heard something, most of the original cast members did not want to do a new movie, so they did the video game instead. Honestly, if the original guys arent in it, or hand it over to someone like Ben Stiller, then I'm gonna be pissed.
Hmmm I'd see it, but like all of you, only if the original team is in it to pass the torch. As to who could do a good job as the new team though? thats what i'm not sure on, MAYBE Jack Black could be good, and if he can do an american accent I'd liek to see Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead). But hopefully they wont just use the guys from Knocked Up and the other movies they made, i wnat to see more diversity in the cast
With the exception of Stallones newest installments in his franchises (Rocky and Rambo). You can pretty much bet that any new sequel/reboot/remake is going to be something different than what its predacessors where in terms of feel.
It helps that Stallone has control over his two franchises. Which is why he was able to take the characters and improve upon them with quality simplistic stories. Less is more basically and Stallone did just that with his franchises. Say what you want about him as an actor or his career. However he atleast put together two quality farewell movies for his series.
Whereas what do you see from all these other series that have since had a sequel years and years later aka Die Hard 4, Indy 4, etc. They went a bit of a different route, the fanboys got irked and that was that.
Stallone stayed true to his series of films.
Ghostbusters 3 for all intent and purposes will be a different film than its predacessors. The style in which the first film was made was timeless. Like so many other 80s movies, it was an epic in filmmaking and storytelling. You cant replicate that kind of success. I also find hard to believe that Ramis, Akroyd (spelling) and Murray will have complete control over the film and the film will be made to be carried by the new Ghostbusters. The old fanboys will be disappointed in that while the studios aim for a newer fanbase with more current comedians.
At the end of the day, my rant is basically saying the obvious which is something I end up doing often. Ghostbusters 3 will not be the same as its predacessors as much as me or anyone else may want it to be.
Wow Im not sure what to think about this one i loved the originals i just hope whom ever they put in doesnt over do it....
Eh either way I know if it gets made I'll see it, I love Ghostbusters, so I'll give a new film a chance, even if it is a new cast. Sure I knwo it wont be liek the originals, doesnt mean it wont be entertaining though.
Half of the original cast has been in favour of another, no one ever seems to ask Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray has been against doing another live action (or so the stories go).
That said, I agree. Unless the right cast was pulled together to 'take the reigns' so to speak I would prefer everyone just follow Murray's idea and leave well enough alone. No need to redeem us for putting out GB2 this long after.
Here's a update...
Ghostbusters Back in Business
Office scribes set to script for original cast.
by Jim Vejvoda
September 4, 2008 - After a two decade absence, the Ghostbusters finally appear ready to return to the silver screen. Columbia Pictures has tapped the Emmy-nominated writing team of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (co-executive producers of The Office) to pen the screenplay.
What's more, Variety reports that the new script will be "for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson." (There were rumors years ago that Ghostbusters 3 would revolve around a younger set of GBs instead.)
The trade adds, "No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is ready, but the gross percentage will certainly be an issue. Sony has a standing policy not to allow more than 25% of first dollar gross out the door."
Harold Ramis recently directed the Sony comedy Year Zero, which was scripted by Eisenberg and Stupnitsky.
Surprised Harold or Dan don't want to script it or at least they won't get to. Glad to hear this is in the writing stages though. That's good news.
:hmmm:interesting
It wont be the same.
But im all aboard.
If it has the same charm that Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 did. It will be a fine addition to a dead series.
i need to get my hair to stand like that for my costume this year. it will be pretty thick by the time i'm done putting junk in it. will be a great night. i look forward to the entertainment of the evening & i give the :negative: thumbs down to those that don't embrace it.
have a FREAKY HALLOWEEN all.:D
I've had enough G Busters for one lifetime.
Not much of an update, but still an interesting one none-the-less. Apparently as Dan Aykroyd was out promoting a new House of Blues, he was asked about Ghostbusters 3, in which he replied "Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009". :ahheh:
So, that means if the script from The Office writers/producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky is approved by Summer, filming could potentially begin by Fall of this year. Not much is known about the project, but word surfaced several months back that the storyline may involve the old Ghostbusters crew mentoring a younger group of up-and-comers. :hmmm:

Good news, bad news; real news, fake news. YOU be the judge...
I know there are some people who though GB2 was great and others who thought it was a train wreck (I would include myself in the latter group). I'd like to see this and have it be something descent.
im not afraid of no news :smokin2:
I hope they don't screw it up. Judd Apetow has an eye for humor but Ivan Rietman should be behind the cam.
If Bill Murray joins the cast I may have interest.
"new" ghostbusters...no thanks...
Didn they try that in the cartoon world and it sucked ass?

ah that's better
:appl1:
Oh how I miss that show. Can't wait for this movie, especially since the cast is returning. Rick Moranis will be missed though.:sadbye:
I dont care if there's new Ghostbusters in this, as long as the original cast if back I'll be there opening day.
I'd check it out if the old cast is in...otherwise i'm gonna keep watching my retro 80's DVD'sand wait for the video game :thumbup3:
I've really looking forward to this. Who doesn't want another Ghostbusters film??
I agree about Bill Murray coming back. I am not that much excited about this film although i will still watch it cause after all its a Ghostbusters sequel, but if Murray returns at least there will be one more reason to go see this.
I have found this about Bill Murrays thoughts on Ghostbusters 3.

I personally am super excited about everything I have read... IDK how I feel about Harold Ramis wanting Ben Stiller in the movie but I am excited none the less.
Here is what I have found about how Bill Murray feels...
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=53141
Original star and co-writer Harold Ramis spoke with MTV recently where he confirms that the story will revolve around the old crew mentoring a younger group of Ghostbusters. He also assures us that the original key characters, including Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) and Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond Stantz) will be returning.
Currently the script is still being penned by The Office writers/producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, whom he is consulting with along-side Aykroyd and original director Ivan Reitman (serving as producer this time 'round). Neither Reitman nor Ramis will take on directing duties, which leads the director's chair open for someone new to take over. Check the video interview below for more.

Well they so far have all the right pieces for this to be good.
:alienfu: WINSTON!!!!!!!
Nice to see that they will be in the movie. They do need Winston also.
For a while I was looking forward to this and maybe I still am on some levels. Will it be different? Damn right it will be.
I suppose im just not looking forward to all the peeps out there who will be disappointed and complain when Murray and company don't get the ample screen time and this film isn't treated as a gothic comedy with horror elements that the original had.
Then again I shouldn't give a shit either.
I don't think it will matter who is behind the director's chair. It will be different and that's that. Whether or not that is a good thing, time will tell.
i want this to happen so badly.
i still own Ghostbusters bedsheets.
As log as Stephen Sommers isnt attached and this isnt going to be an abusive CG mess, I cant wait to see it! Its just one of those reboots that will either be awesome and get the series started up in a new direction, or it will be a train wreck and that will be the end of the Ghostbusters for another 5-10yrs until the inevitable remake.
