There is a lot of SHIT out there as of late. Maybe it's just me....AGREE/DISAGREE?
Horror flicks been sucking :dislike:
Haven't seen a crazy amount of new stuff. Light's Out and The Purge: Election Year were okay. Still need to see Don't Breath and 31. Excited for 2017 though.
I was gonna disagree but then I realized I watch a lot of older stuff!
New ish has been very lacking...a lot of hype with no delivery!
No different than usual.
Every 20 horror movie released breaks down like this....
1 of 20 = Great. Worth watching (7+)
2 of 20 = slightly above moderate. (5.5-6.5)
2 of 20 = perfectly medium movies. 5 of 10, but also stand out as something horror fans will want to see. (5-5.5)
15 of 20 = Give or take crap that even horror fans have no real interest in. (0-5)
Conjuring 2 was great. The VVitch is basically a masterpiece (albeit not for everyone). Lights Out was decent. Don't Breathe was really good. Purge...I still don't consider it horror. The Autopsy of Jane Doe was really good at first then turned into really familiar, cliched territory. Ouija: Origin of Evil was surprisingly very good.
I think things lately have been pretty solid. I loved movies like It Follows, Babadook, The VVitch, Krampus, Conjuring 2, were all fantastic. These are the movies that will be remembered and talked about 20 years from now, while all the mediocre ones will be rarely mentioned except on whatever the equivalent of a instagram post on underrated movies will be. There were just as many shitty horror movies made in the 80s and 90s, but people only focus on the great ones.
TLDR: I think there are always more bad horror than good horror and the recent years are no exception.
Mac...I need to see The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
It's true that every decade had their fair share of shitty flicks, but it's obviously worse now since technology has made it so easy for anyone to make a "movie" :negative:
I agree and disagree. The mainstream stuff (theatrical releases) are probably the same or similar ratio.
As for the smaller stuff, yes there's more being made now, but there was still a ton back in the day, they were just SOV and didn't have the distribution capabilities that we have now a days with online stuff and horror festivals.
Yup! Distro has gotten better for indies so we are much more aware of them. Also we see this anytime tech becomes affordable. With SOV we had camcorders, Then it was cellphones with camera, now it's go pros and the like. With the tech moving so quickly and increased awareness I can tell if their are more or are we just more aware of it.
Still doing the database but may post raw numbers once I get to that stage. :shrugs: may determine which is which
But that's rose colored glasses.
When i mentioned the 20 movies thing, that applies to the 70s, 80s, 90s too. Its just when you remember those era's you only remember the ones you love or a handful of bad one's that really stood out. You'll remember leprechaun as a fun and good horror movie, but you wont remember the 50 rip offs it had but you will remember leprechaun in the hood.
I never thought Lep was a good horror movie :stare:
