I think they should have a Green Lantern movie, a Wonder Woman movie, and maybe a Flash movie before making a JL flick.
I think it would be ok just to do a JL movie. X-Men had just as many characters and didn't need previous establishing movies.
However, I think its completely stupid to not only have someone else play Batman in JL, but to have an actor obviously younger than Christian Bale to play him. I can see a lot of dumbasses getting confused because of this.
yeah, but the X-men have always been a team. the JL is a group of superheroes already established coming together as a group.
and as for Bale, him playing Batman really fucks it up because then the Nolan series and the "comic world" become joined and Nolan's movies are staying far away from other heroes.
I understand that Justice League is supposed to be outside of the current movie lines. (The comic book equivalent might be picking up Batman Confidential, All Star Batman & Robin, and Batman at the same time. Or perhaps Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man.)
It doesn't bother me. It wouldn't bother me even if I had any good feelings toward the Nolan series.
I know this is movie talk, so I thought about putting this in the non horror section, but then again this movie doesn't exist and is so on again off again that it might be awhile before it actually does so I decided to put it here. I was talking to a friend today that is a huge comic book nut, and he brought up a good point. He said it was a good idea to bring in the avengers one at a time and introduce them like they did. I agreed as do most people I think. Then he said I wouldn't mind them doing that with DC but I Think they should go ahead and just make a Justice League movie.
When I asked him why he thought he said 6 years ago or so if you went up to a random person and said "hey do you know who Ironman is?" they would either have said yeah I've heard of him or flat out said no. Had you said "Do you know who Tony Stark is?" unless they were a comic book person it would have been an obvious no. Same thing with Thor and Maybe Captain America. Sure everybodies heard of Captain America but until the movie came out the non comic book people couldn't really tell you a whole lot about him. Only one they would have really known was Hulk.
Then he said if you walked up to a random person and said "Do you know who Superman and Batman are?" I highly doubt your going to run into many people that have no clue who you are talking about. And they may not know her real name but theres also a good bet they're gonna know who Wonder Woman is. And he said that alone is enough to carry a Justice League movie. So what the green lantern "tanked". You could save the character with a justice league flick, do some solo stuff later if people are interested. Just like Hulk was saved with The Avengers. Say what you want good or bad about the past movie. The Hulks portrayal in The Avengers was recieved in a pretty positive way by most critics. So thats just my two cents. I agreed with him on what he said. They wanna do some solo stuff first thats cool with me. But I think theres enough "name" power behind the JLA to go ahead and just make a movie.
I honestly don't think Justice League would work with Batman. Nolan has given the public such a strong Batman impression in people's minds it would be tough to view him (or at least a version of him similar to Nolan's) in the same universe as Supes and Wonderwoman.
That being said I do think a lower end JL with some "lesser" characters like Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Cyborg teamed up with a "biggie" like Supes or Wonder Woman would work.
I think something that would have more success is a live action Teen Titans. It would even work if they kept the tone of that cartoon show they used to have years ago...throw in a Supes cameo and you have a blockbuster.
no Batman would piss me off. I really enjoys Nolan's Batman movies but I don't like what they've done to Batman. They've put him in a place, like you said, in peoples minds where he wouldn't work with these other characters. The next time someone does Batman. They don't need to do their own version of him. They need to do the comic book justice.
I like what he did with Batman, made him real and took away all the camp. He got rid of the trash impression that Joel Schumacher and Adam West left on the American people.
and took away the comic book feel to it as well
There's no reason not to expect a dud out of this. Other than around half the Batman movies, and 70's Superman, DC movies lay eggs. Throwing all these guys together is dangerous.
DC 9 times out of 10 doesn't do it right in the movie department. Funny how they knock it out of the park in DVD animation but lose it in the theater flicks (most of the time)
I'm not sure it would make huge grosses outside of the USA as DC characters aren't that known here. Sure we know Batman and Superman and Green Lantern and Wonder woman. But finally, not that many people know that Green lantern belong to DC or even like this character. If some people appreciate Wonder woman thanks to the old tv series I'm not sure people would like to see her in a movie. many would consider her as a cheap character.
My problem is that with the exception of Superman, Batman, and recently Green Lantern nobody knows the backstory of the rest of the Justice League.
Wonder Woman may be well known on a name basis but I promise if you ask anybody to tell you her origin they would have no idea.
The Flash is only known as a guy who moves fast. I'm willing to bet most people wouldn't even know the names Barry Allen or Wally West.
Aquaman is still a complete joke to most people who remember him as the guy from Superfriends.
Martian Manhunter is a complete and total unknown to almost everybody.
So my big problem is how do we explain who these people are and where they come from without setting up their origins and motivations first?
Avengers got it right by taking their time and introducing the characters first and then when it came time for the movie they could jump right into their story and not worry about explaining who these people are.
Good point, but who would go see a Martian Manhunter film? Or any of these characters, really. I don't believe there is a big enough following for these other characters to warrant separate films for each one to create a back story before doing a Justice League film.
People said the same thing about the first Iron Man movie as well as the first Thor and Captain America movie.
Can you imagine throwing together a movie where you had to explain where Iron Man got the suit, where Thor comes from, and where Captain America comes from all in the same movie?
Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all have an ongoing following and were well known characters well before the mentioning of their films. I think they're just in a different league as far as mainstream comics go. I was rather excited when they started discussing these films. However, I would need to see some damned good trailers and reveiws before even considering dishing out any money to Martian Manhunter, Flash, Aqua Man, or even Wonder Woman films.
Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America had a following among comic book fans but anybody who didn't read comics before the movies most likely had no idea who they were.
As far a the Justice League movie goes they would sure as hell need at least a Wonder Woman movie first since her character is so steeped in mythology that it would be difficult to introduce her character without any movie explaining her origin. Aquaman and Flash are two that I would like to see given shot just to introduce their characters to a mainstream audience. Martian Manhunter would probably be best as a character that they introduce in the Justice League movie itself since I don't see him carrying a movie on his own.
I'm sorry, did you really just suggest they make a stand alone Aquaman movie? Aquaman is very well known, in fact after the big 3 of DC (Supes, Batman, and Wonderwoman) Aquaman is the next well known. Why? Because the public knows he sucks and has the impression that he has the worst powers of anyone.
I think the majority of people know who Thor is... He's Thor. They may not know his Marvel side, but they certainly must know the name.
And any comic book character will primarily have a comic book fans following for their films. It's us comic fans that run back to our buds and tell them how great or horrible the film was and then go back 10 times on the opening weekend that help make these films thrive!
Which origin would they use for Aquaman, I wonder? Where his human father teaches him the secrets of the sea through Atlantian studies? Or where his human father mates with an Atlantian? Or where his Atlantian mother mates with a wizard? Will he be the one that has to touch the ocean once an hour or die? I'm not sure he's be needed in a JLA film... :stare2:
Let's just hope this never happens , Batman is the only D.C. character I can tolerate
Going through these posts, you guys are just silly. Of course Batman can work with the Justice League. Of course people would get behind Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, etc. It doesn't matter how people know these characters beforehand or even if they don't know them at all when it comes to the final product. Batman, a joke for decades in the public eye, went from this
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EC8DmmeWcZU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> to this <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/U9G18qHPhcM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
See how radically different those two versions of Batman are? The same exact thing can be done with Aquaman. Aquaman is in the same exact place Batman was post the 1960s; ridiculed and chastised for one TV show based off a different era of comic books. Aquaman has a great set of powers, super strength, super speed, durability to rival that of Superman's, and all that's above and below water. He can withstand the extreme cold and pressures of the deepest oceans and see clearly into the darkest crevices of those oceans. Yes, he can command fish with his mind, but he can also command beings that evolved from the ocean, you know, people, if he tries hard enough. 75% of the world is his domain. Aquaman rules.
The Flash? He's fucking awesome.

Imagine seeing that on a big screen with a multimillion dollar budget and the best special effects they can buy. And wouldn't you know, those two pages came from a JLA issue.
Wonder Woman is an icon just like Superman and Batman. Get a director who understands her like how Donner understood Superman and Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan understood Batman respectfully. Putting her on screen successfully wouldn't be any harder than Iron Man, the X-Men, Blade, or any other character. If the Avengers can be done how Joss Whedon did them, then the Justice League can just as easily be given equal treatment.
People would be pulled into this movie no matter if they know the characters or not, just take a look at all the Super Hero movies made so far. As long as the movie is good I would go check it out.
I do understand the fans want to see the characters portrayed honestly from their respected comics which is understandable.
Aquaman is pretty awesome now. I read those comics. His wife Mera is one of my favorites, shes such a bitch. This guy was giving her crap about being away from the water and it being her weakness. She said you are mistaken, lack of water isn't my weakness, It's yours. Then she starts pulling water out of his body because she can control water. Cracked me up. Shes got such an attitude.
They are doing the Aquaman comics right finally I think because they aren't ignoring the fact everyone thinks Aquaman sucks. When he shows up people laugh saying "what the hell is aquaman doing here?" And theres a pretty funny scene in the first issue where he goes to a seafood resteraunt and people can't believe he's eating there. He's staying on land because he wants to fix his rep basically. I think they need to incoporate that into an Aquaman movie if they ever do one.

New Justice League Trailer
Good old Zack is back at it again.
I'm assuming that everyone that liked Batman v superman wont like this due to its comedic, light-hearted, "Marvel Universe-like" tone.
Looks fun so far...been saying that a lot about DC films lately. :hmmm:
Looks good so far, I'm glad the tone isn't as serious as past DC films
Trailer's not bad. Better than Suicide Squad at least :confident:

I like Suicide Squad and this looks fun too. Can't wait to see more of Flash and Aquaman.
There are rumors that this movie has had some major reshoots that created an entirely film from what it originally was and the rumors going on to say there are more big reshoots to come. Suicide squad was enoyable enough, I liked it enough to see it twice in theaters, I am not completely sold on Justicr league, the latest trailer really didn't do much for me
http://www.slashfilm.com/justice-league-reshoots-rumor/
I'm not holding my breath on this one...I'm way more excited for Thor 3 than for the first Justice League movie. That's a very sad state for WB to be in.
Also Suicide Squad is a fucking mess...just a complete meandering goal-less mess.
Joss Whedon is stepping in to finish post production work on justice league and shoot some new scenes after Zack Snyder is stepping down. Zack and his wife are facing a family tragedy, their daughter commited suicide. Truly awful news for them.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...ragedy-1006455
That's horrible for Zack and his family. I truly feel awful for him to be put in this situation of trying to fend of critics of BvS, make a bigger follow up movie, and deal with maybe the biggest tragedy a father can undergo.
With all of that being said this topic is on Justice League so I'll stick with what this news means for the movie itself.
Principal photography has already been completed under Zack, Joss will be tasked with over seeing the editing and any pick-up shots that need to be done. Honestly this could go either way for the movie. Either Joss can keep the editing on track and avoid the disasters that were BvS and SS, or his tone and sensibilities being so different from Zacks will clash and lead to another tonally incoherent mess like SS. Either way this tragedy is worrisome for all.
I never hated Zack Snyder even when there exist films of his I didn't really like, he's a great visionary director and the whole DCCU thing I feel has to have been a heavy burden on him and it was smart to have Joss Whedon take the reigns on this.
I only wish him and his family the best with what they have to cope with, suicide is a hard blow for anyone.
Also fuck any of those Internet fuckards who will make a joke out of this.
I have no enthusiasm for this movie. It's a sad thing about Snyder's daughter, but that still doesn't take away the fact he's a hack.
As for upcoming super hero movies this trailer had me completely sold until I saw the new Thor trailer.
It seems that the dcu will be largely phased out. DC is no longer looking at making a large expanded universe, the films going forward will largely be unconnected to each other. What if justice league turns out to be great and a runaway success though?
https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/29/1...ros-standalone
Wow, just complete failure. I suppose that's what happens when you put all of your eggs in one snyder shaped basket. This is both a blessing and a horrible shame. It's a blessing because DC has the best elseworlds stories, and not having a connected universe allows DC to make movies like Superman Red Son, Gotham by Gaslight, and even something amazing like Kingdom Come. None of these would be possible with a connected universe, but at the same time brilliant takes and runs of connected films like Tower of Babble, Darkseid stories, Batman Hush, etc will all be less effective without a connected universe.
It's safe to say for anyone that this is the nail in the coffin for the Marvel vs DC debate cinema-wise. Marvel and Disney were able to make a completely connected universe and even improve on films with it while DC and WB was an utter failure at the same task.
DC films president says his fomments were taken out of context and they aren't ditching the connected film universe. They are just giving directors and writers more freedom. Some movies will be more connected than others, but still be part of the shared universe.

I refuse to let myself get excited for this movie...the tone seems odd for their previous films, not that changing their tone is a bad thing, it just doesnt seem like the same storyline
Also is it just me or does Cyborg look like a CGI mess?
I am pretty excited for the film myself. Cyborg looks pretty cool at least to me.
I'm gonna try to go see it this week sometime or early next week.
I heard some good things about it.
We shall see.
I liked it, just wish Zack Snyder got to finish his version and not that horrible hack Joss Whedon. The Superman cgi face is so bad. :myhead: The post-credit scene is very cool, though.
Still better than any Disney Marvel movie. :2thumbs::2thumbs:
I've been hearing a ton of positive reviews on it.
