annnnnnnnnd... it looks terrible. Is anyone really surprised?
I'm surprised that it looks THAT terrible. They threw in every cliche in the book.
I can understand why the face is partially exposed, but why his hand? Could the film makers not afford any more money in the budget to make an extra glove? What's the purpose? Won't it just get blown off? Oh, sorry, it's a PG-13 flick, maybe the new RoboDouche will flip the audience off just so H-wood producers can say "Fuck You, RoboCop fans! We have your money now!"
Watch out and dodge this film...along with Bayformers 4, forget this remake, PLEASE.
UUUUGHH!!!! FUCK YOU, H-WOOD! PLEASE KILL ME NOW!!
Won't be spending any money to see this POS... :dislike:
I'm always a hopeful nerd. I never want a movie to suck. I've missed Robocop and I've wanted to see it come back for awhile now. But this? This looks like absolute shit. The Visor being up most of the movie? No. Making fun of the old look before you get a new one? No. this is going to suck. Great cast or no.
For a guy inches away from a car bombing his face stayed very pretty. He should look like Freddy Krueger. This actor looks like he is in no pain.
Verhoeven set out to make murphy regain his humanity bit by bit and by the finale he had to remove his failing helmet to reveal the human underneath. When Murphy saw his reflection he looked tormented. This movie won't come close to the original.
The new black suit looks kinda cool. Outside of that, having a hard time mustering up a positive comment here.
In case folks hadn't seen these. The original Robocop is some deep shit.

...I seriously dig who's playing the new Murphy but know this thing isn't going to have the soul or seemingly timeless American social commentary. What's truly ironic is that both the first and second films are no longer satire.
We did say the same thing about DREDD, and its funny how DREDD, the remake and robocop have comparisons with one another: bloody satire
Thanks for posting those. I hate when I hear people call the original film cheesy. On the surface it looks like a B-movie but there's a lot of layers, with out getting too pretentious. It's a biting satire, visceral action movie, there's genuine pathos in it. If any fan here hasn't, it's recommended to listen to the Audio Commentary with Paul Verhoeven and Ed Neumeier as well.
I'm gonna give this a watch.
Agreed. Verhoven doesn't do surface-level filmmaking...Showgirls perhaps being the only exception though you could make the argument that even here there's still some social commentary, down in there, relating it to all the ridiculous talent shows that showcase no talent, the epidemic of cam whoring and every other way people chase celebrity at the expense of their dignity.
Robocop though, unlike Bay's The Rock, is a film that deserves its place in the Criterion Collection.
"Robocop is an American Jesus."
Verhoeven is the most insane mainstream director ever. You will never get anybody who can get near his talent.
I just watched those youtube vids, btw. That's brilliant. So much thought put it into what could've been a silly movie.
Fuck modern cinema, seriously. No heart or soul. Just lame CGI bullshit to get box office receipts.
The problems with this film will have nothing to do with CGI. Any film with "bullshit" CGI likely has bigger problems, like bullshit filmmaker, bullshit script...bullshit film.
Looks like shit.
Thankfully I don't think this will be a big sell at all. There was nothing sexy or pretty about the original Robocop at all, it was a gritty film with a relatively everyday looking cast, unlike today where most of these remakes or summer movies want hotties to sell the teens/kiddies on.
The remake cast ain't too pretty itself. I just don't think this film will appeal to the masses at all which is what most of these remakes tend to try to attract.
Conclusion, it will be a shit film that doesn't make much money (maybe its return budget and some lukewarm profit), and it will be forgotten.
