Balls to the wall this time around! :metalbang::metalbang::metalbang::metalbang::metalbang: :metalbang:
Sounds awesome! Just hope we see a bit more this time.
Hopefully there is some fighting this time
:rockin:
If they manage to get a third film in the series, they're really going to have to up ante on it. They literally 3 of the most popular Toho monsters outside of Godzilla himself in this film. All three have been in films in all three eras (showa, heisei and millennium) and are Toho's top go to monsters, with the exception of MechaGodzilla, which could make for a strong candidate for a third film.
Awesome, can't wait.
I was disappointed with the first Godzilla movie, even though it's unanimously superior than the Roland Emmerich movie, but seems to have suffered from too much suspense and wanted to focus more on the humans who weren't really all that interesting it felt like it played a Bayformers card but at least it was more tolerable in that regard, I was just more interested in the monsters.
I'll give this sequel a chance, but if it doesn't really do anything better...meh, fuck Godzilla.
This guy doesn't make monster movies, he makes human dramas with monsters in the background. Rodan, Ghidorah and Mothra will probably be in it for 2 mins tops.
Nice, I love to see more classic monsters!
Ok movie producers...who wants to make a shitload of money? Just follow these simple instructions. Set the movie 20 years after the first, show a montage over the credits that show kaiju attacks have been happening since the original (Mothra, Rodan, maybe Anguiruis) but Godzilla hasn't been seen since his battle. Cut to the main character from the first, who is 20 years older and obsessed with tracking Godzilla down, so much so that his wife has left him and his kids don't want to talk to him. Pan the camera up and reveal that the main character is now being played by...BOOM Bryan Cranston.
You're welcome Hollywood...enjoy your one billion dollars.
OK, for all those who complained about Humans outshining Godzilla. As someone who has seen every single Japanese film and is my #1 fandom and obsession, I can tell you that every single Godzilla movie has had more screen time on humans then Godzilla himself. Very rarely has Godzilla gotten half of a film's screen time at most. Now I will admit, Gareth did cut back way more then the usual G-film would, but really if he had done the usual Godzilla screen time, He'd probably get at most 15 more minutes. I absolutly wanna see more Godzilla in the next film, but get used to human characters getting more focus.
Then make the characters interesting. Jaws or Alien barely even showed the monster, but those are classics because of the human characters and interesting plot. Monsters had a fairly interesting world, but the people in it just weren't very interesting. I know the Japanese Godzilla films sometimes also had poor characters and bad acting, but it made up for it mostly with the monster fights. If you don't even have that, then you've got nothing. Just one giant tease for a sequel.
Saw it opening weekend, was not a fan. I know I am in the minority on that one. It was okay, I guess, but left me unfulfilled. I am hoping that the sequel will improve on some of the flaws of the original. More monsters is a good thing, yes, but please please more epic fights and screen time! Thanks.
Not always, Godzilla vs Mothra: Battle for Earth had really bland characters and terrible monster fights, partly from really bad animations with the flying mechanisms for Mothra and Battra. Godzilla vs Megagaruis had like 10 minutes of monster fights in the end and characters that where very simplified and boring. All I'm saying is it fallows the traditional story means of a Godzilla story and considering how that has failed terribly before, this could have been worse. If anything else, the film to me felt fresh between the new American take on it and this being the first film in 10 years (which on a side note, the last film Godzilla: Final Wars also sucked).
Yeah but when you have a classic original movie like Gojira that started a huge franchise, I can take a few crappy sequels. The remake was supposed to go back to the original but it failed. Even Emmerich's version had better characters, which wasn't really a Godzilla movie anyway.
Mothra I've hated from day one. She is a giant moth that shoots glitter, and lets not forget the larva stage where she is a giant penis shooting sticky white stuff every where. And those 2 stupid little fairies that sing all the time. God I hope he changes mothra as much as he possibly can. Rodan I've always liked so I'm cool with that, and Ghidorah has me excited because they now have the technology to control those heads! I mean I love the guy in a suit concept, but ghidorah's other heads floundering around like an epileptic fit makes me laugh. I can imagine someone staring at a building as all 3 heads come slowly around the corner from different places. That would be cool.
Legendary pictures also has The King Kong prequel Skull Island in pre production. Its speculated that down the road we will be seeing these two titans doing battle once again. Evidently this is Warner Bros answer to Universals shared universe of their classic movie monsters ..... Nice! I'm all for this shits
I am the consummate Godzilla nerd... Seen ever Godzilla flick multiple times and own all of them, with the exception of that 1998 cinematic abortion that dares to call itself Godzilla. I have a sizable collection of Godzilla figures and memorabilia and have Godzilla tattooed on my back, Ghidorah tattooed on my right shoulder and Gigan tattooed on my left shoulder.. I'm a Godzilla Uber-Nerd... That being said, I agree that the human element was a bit too much on the latest Godzilla flick.. and believe me, there are plenty Godzilla flicks that have suffered from this, however, if Legendary wants these movies to succeed, they can't go that route. The general mainstream audience isn't as understanding or forgiving as your standard Godzilla nerd is.
Give us the goods.. Lots of Monster Action and a decent storyline to fill in the gaps between the fights. In some monster movie cases, less is more.. in the case of a Godzilla flick, More is MORE...
:2thumbs:
I'm not sure how are they gonna explain a three headed bi pedal flying dragon monster that is king Ghidorah. With Mothra and Rodan they can just go the muto route(ancient predators and shit) but cmon son. Ghidorah is ridicilous! I mean 4 years is a long time to step up a solid story with a decent background but still...I think this is a bit overkill.
