This is so interesting and they once again seem to be taking aspects from the old EU that are the best.
For a further explanation, in the old EU it dove into the idea that the jedi and sith are nothing but religious orders. The force is the reality, the orders have their way of praising this reality. The EU really dove into this much more than the movies, the OT did kind of, but with the PT it was all bud abandoned in any kind of significant or detailed way. The last book of the EU before Disney erased them was Crucible. In this Luke was basically absorbed the force itself and came to the conclusion that there was no light or dark, just force, it was all the same thing and the jedi order was just as destructive as the sith. Which seems to be where the movie is at.
This is the teaser poster and.... fucking incredible.

So this poster is a reimagining of one of the original sketch posters/art. I cant remember the name of it, but when i find it ill post it for comparison. Im sure many of you older folks have seen it though.
Im sitting here looking at the goddamn image in my Art of Star Wars book, but it does not have name and i cant find the individual picture on the internet. Hopefully someone will write an article on it and clarify everything. But the artist is Ralph Mcquarrie, who did a lot of the original episode 4 conceptual art and posters. One of his most famous one's is this:

The image episode 8 takes from is very similar, except the jedi is in the same position.
