Hello Ghost is a fun little light-hearted Korean comedy-drama with supernatural elements that stars Tae-hyun Cha of My Sassy Girl fame. The basic storyline isn't anything original, but the execution is very well played out. I especially loved the surprisingly touching climax of the film.
Quote:
So, the story follows a loner who attempts suicide, only to be brought back to life. This time, however, he's able to see ghosts and there are four distinct spirits that continuously follow him around wherever he goes. Still determined to end his life, he eventually comes to the conclusion that the ghosts won't let him kill himself again unless he "grants their wish" so they can move on and leave him alone to do as he pleases with himself.
Of course we've seen several movies with a similar premise in the past, but this one managed to have its own charm that stands above many others, in my opinion. There are funny bits here and there involving the ghosts "possessing" the man's body (normally without him knowing) and causing some funny awkward moments with the regular people around him. There's also a nice warm romance element sub-plot, as the man gets to know the ghosts a little better and he meets a young nurse that the ghosts help him be-friend and date.
As the norm with Korean cinema, the movie had some good character development, laughs, drama, and a nice emotional side to it. As I said before, it had a really great climax that made the movie all-the-more special in my eyes. Definitely worth a look if you just want a simple light-hearted film with some charm and funny bits.
7/10
