(France) A Gang Story (2011)

If you're looking for an interesting new foreign crime drama (and you already saw Easy Money) then I'd recommend giving A Gang Story a look. This is a new French gangster drama about an aged group of criminals that go back to their old ways when one of their own is broken out of jail and is back into the fold. But with his return are deadly criminals that seek to collect what is owed to them.

The flick is primarily told in the perspective of these aged gangsters, specifically two best friends, but we're shown several flashbacks throughout the movie that detail how the friends formed their own gang and ran a number of successful heists and made a name for themselves. Worth a look if you're into crime dramas, especially those that deal with some form of organized crime.

Apparently a remake is in development (no surprise), which I actually welcome. Even though I liked the movie, there are certain aspects that could be improved and I'd love to see some familiar veteran actors in the title role. :hmmm:

Pretty solid casting with good actors (Tcheky Karyo, the father of Alexandre Astier...)

The director used to be a cop for years and he's been directing a few movies about gangs and cops over the last years. Thanks to his past, he can add some value to his script as they're more true to reality than most screenplays we're used to read.

This was fantastic! I just finished it and had to write something while my emotions are still raw. Fuck.

Momon was my favourite charter, even though a criminal he still had class and honor. The film flowed smoothly and was easy to follow but still delivered surprises. At the end I was sitting on the edge of my seat just wondering, did he, didn't he...How was Momon going to handle this 'holy male friendship' he believed in so..:whew:

Right now, this minute, I don't see how a remake could be better...a wonderful Sunday watch. Thankyou FrighT MasteR. :thumbup:

Yeah, I really liked these old gangsters and their code of honor, especially with Momon. Didn't really expect things to go the way they did towards the end. :whew:
