Another one could work if they have a good writer and the right actor to play Freddy. Robert Englund is some big shoes to fill, but I am convinced there is someone else out there that can do the character justice, just got to find him.
Thats what defined the character. Them recognizing the ridiculousness of the idea and being self aware of the story. Unless you just want to stick with the first movie and nothing after that, but even then the remake still failed at making him an acceptable character. Turning him into a pedophile is not how you do that, it adds a level of darkness and creates a lack of empathy for a character you're supposed to embrace for the next however many movies.
Even in the first movie he is goofy. Falling into traps and running around like a cartoon character.
The nightmare remake is maybe the worst remake I've ever seen. It's horrible. 1/10
without all the hype, build up and anticipation the remake isn't so bad. i watched it again for the first time in a few years
and didn't walk away hating it.
Haley was awful as Kruegar. He lacked the frenetic energy and perverse charisma englund brought to the role.
Making Freedy an actual child molester takes away from him being a sympathetic villain. have the kids lie about his actions and his revenge on their children make sense. it makes you root for him.
who wants to root for a child molester?
Who says you are supposed to root tor freddy? He's a killer. I have never seen hi as a sympathetic villain. I haven't seen the remake but changing a few things adds to the creep factor. He was pretty svary in the original first two films and wasn't this crazy wisecracking thing
As a Nightmare flick, yeah, the remake is pretty terrible. Freddy just isn't Freddy in it. However, if you take it out of the series and look at it as an independent movie, it's better, not great, but better. Like Faust said, you're really not supposed to be rooting for the bad guy. I did like how they almost made me feel like 'oh geez, they got the wrong guy...' and then pulled the 'wait, nope, no they didn't' thing. Again, as a part of the ANOES series, Haley didn't fill Englund's shoes, as a stand alone film, Haley did what he could with what he had.
Should allow the franchise to die already; they do it no favors by resurrecting a franchise that brings nothing new to the table.
I heard their gonna remake the remake of ANOES. :die:
No Robert Englund. No Freddy. It is that simple.
they should aim lower; remake/reboot the Wishmaster franchise and, hopefully, get Andrew Divoff to return. or, hell, give Freddy's Nightmares another turn (with better writers, hopefully). with Mr. Englund back as Freddy, of course. couldn't be worse than the new season of American Horror Story.
^^ I agree with all of this
