Extinction (Welcome to Harmony)

Watched this movie called Extinction last night. Zombie flick with the dude from Party of Five in it...Matthew Fox (also in the upcoming Bone Tomahawk). It was actually pretty damn good! Not traditional zombie fare and it has a spin on what zombies are and one of the only zombie flicks I ever seen take place in the dead of winter with tons of snow.

Some questionable CGI when it comes to the landscape in some areas we see but outside of that the acting and tension are pretty awesome and the atmosphere is unique for this genre and add's to the overal feel of the movie.

Directed very well with surprisingly good production values and cinematography this movie has some oomph to it.

The tension and acting along with quality characters made any pacing issues this flick might have non-existant for me.

It was originally titled Welcome to Harmony (the title of the Spanish book it is based from) and remains that in other countries but apparently the 'murica studio releasing it didn't think that sounds zombie enough and more like a sequel to The Notebook.

I say this is a very solid 7/10 flick. Definitely a nice surprise!

Add another quality foreign horror flick (Spain) to the list :2thumbs:

Movie was alright; had a strong beginning and climax, but had a lot of MEH stuff in between. They tried to add a little too much drama in it, which I felt was unnecessary and hurt the pacing quite a bit. Aside from that, it's not too bad. The infected looked pretty cool when they weren't using cheesy looking CG and I liked the winter setting. I'll have a more detailed review soon :2thumbs:

It was decent. The whole drama triangle thing really put a crimp in the pacing for the meat of the movie though. The practical creature effects were pretty solid - while the CG being pretty forgetable as it so often is.

A strong beginning and end are the good points here. The middle suffers from drama fatigue, and character lapses in critical thinking - which is by no means an anomaly to the genre of post apocalyptia. Those of you that feel that the character descision making and the logic portrayals from the writing dead team of The Walking Dead are sound and completely reasonable will probably enjoy this a bit more. It's worth a viewing.

I was a little bit more forgiving with this flick because of how well it is made (outside of the CGI of course) and for trying something different. This does not feel like the straight to Netflix garbage that we are flooded with.
