i somewhat enjoyed the new one
There's a certain amount of loyalty I have to horror films. Even though my expectations are very low and I might not even want to like it, I see it anyhow.
Sometimes I am surprised by the results and I am proved wrong (Freddy Vs. Jason, DOTD04, Seed Of Chucky, Black X-Mas), but then I prove myself right too (Halloween remake, Jason X, Hellraiser straight to dvd sequels). Sometimes I am wrong, sometimes I am right.
It's kind of like going to see your child play little league when he is the worst player on the team. Sure, he's god awful and sometimes even embarrassing to watch, but you still have to support it anyways.
PJ's King Kong was a piece of junk. Can't sit trough that disaster.
Some of the Hellraiser straight-to-DVD sequels were pretty good; I don't remember which one it was, I think it was Hellworld, but the one that brought back Ashley Laurence from the first two, was actually really good IMO. Thought Bloodline was alright too, definitely ten times better than Hellraiser 3.
As for remakes that surpass the original, Hills Have Eyes is a certainty, same with The Thing and I Am Legend; also liked the ABC made-for-TV remake of The Shining more than Kubrick's. TCM remake was also better than the original IMO.
The Ring tons better than RINGU
Not horror, but 'tis the season:
Batman Begins
I disagree with that one.
Tim Burton's Batman is as unique as any critic or fan would say, and it's a great movie, but I think Batman Begins is a better movie by a long shot.
I didn't care for it at all.
So you're not interested in Dark Knight?
Not really.
Back on topic...
I think they're all pretty much up for debate, I just don't think UHM has many diehards for old b&w horror, so remakes of the older stuff are just more appreciated.
As for The Hills Have Eyes, I think it's pretty good, but really only in comparison because I thought Wes Craven's was absolute shit.
Yeah well thats exactly why THHE remake would be better huh.
Also I dare yo to say the original Thing was better then Carpenter's The Thing.
