Dude, I dig the way you use the alphabet.
:lol2:
Man Im to Lazy .
Im not going to see how to spell Exorcist lol to complicated .
But ok the Saw movies and Exorcism of Emily Rose .
Sad thread... Hate how some folks confuse scary and shock value gore. Hostel had shock value gore. It did not have anything scary in it. Not bashing shock value gore. It has given me many entertaining evenings. But lets not get carried away.
Lately, I'm content if a horror flick is mildly original and entertains me. Actually stumbling across something that scares me has worse odds than getting struck by lightning it seems. :movies:

The last scary film to come out as of late was The Descent IMO. Certain scenes gave me a claustrophobic feeling (like when the tunnel was caving in) and had me at the edge of my seat. 1408 had it's share of creepy moments as well.
I loved The Strangers and thought it was scary in a real-life sort of way.
Dawn on the Dead (remake) is scary to me because I can get so into it that I expect all of the zombies to be outside when I'm done. I was freaking out when I saw it in the theatre....I didn't want to leave!
The Exorcist 3 had hands down the best scare scene in my opinion.Haven't jumped seeing a movie in the theaters since.
Them/Ils would be my choice, because it wasn't based around gore and blood.
Maybe [Rec] for much the same reason. Tension and suspense over red blood flowing.
28 Days Later got a few jumps and was mind torturing when I saw it in the movies. Ill have to go with that movie. The Exorcist is still the creepiest movie around though.
Sad post... the idea of being kidnapped and tortured by people who paid for the pleasure to do so is scary to me. While there was in fact "shock value gore" in Hostel, there were also some parts I thought were scary... like when you don't see the ankle slash until after it happens (chills)... or when homedude was trying to get out of the torture house without being noticed (tense)...
Saying Hostel didn't scare you makes sense. Saying Hostel wasn't scary and people who say it was can't tell the difference between horror and shock doesn't.
Agreed. Just because it doesn't scare you, it doesn't mean it's not considered a scary movie by others. Like I previously posted, the only movie to genuinely give me the chills since 1999 ("Stir Of Echoes") was "[Rec]". That doesn't mean there is no such thing as a scary film to come out over the past decade besides "[Rec]".
:boxing:
Like 3/6 said no movie is "scary" anymore then like what happened when I was a kid. What I look in a "scary" movie is a movie that makes me think and changes my mood.
IE Session 9, Jacobs Ladder, 28 Days Later
Then there is the creepy movies that makes myself ask "Did I just fucking see that?"

The Exorcist and III, some Asian Movies
i havent seen a scary movie in about 15 years I'd say. Since my early teens. If anything came close it was the ring, without knowing about the tv scene I did get a bit freaked out when it happened.
House of the Dead? Are you serious? The one based on the video game? I thought that movie was HORRIBLE. I couldn't even finish watching it. I don't understand why everyone is hating on The Strangers so much, I thought it was very well done for a modest budget. I look forward to the writer/director's next film. But maybe I'm wrong and maybe his new film will suck. You never know...
High Tension was good right up until the end (that shock ending was severely disappointing).
Midnight Meat Train I thought kicked serious ass (although it wasn't very scary at all). I haven't been scared by a movie since I was like 10. The only thing that I found annoying were that some of the killing scenes appeared to have been CGI (I'm a fan of old school prosthetics myself) but other than that small, easily able to look past glitch, the movie was very well done. Sorry if anyone disagrees, but I am a HUGE Clive Barker fan!
High Tension is definitely one of the scariest flicks to come out recently.
